Cannot continue past Riverwood, CTD and freezes. help?

Post » Mon Jan 05, 2015 4:04 am

Alright, i have literally done everything i could, EVERYTHING beyond the small stuff and main graphical improvements. I can not continue past Riverwood, literally. I can go to riverwood, do the quest regarding the dragons claw, but as soon as i head to Whiterun past the meadery, my game experiences freezes, crashes, and the like. I've done LOOT, i've taken off aMiridianBorn landscapes, i've quite literally given any graphical or performance enhancing mod either the boot or withdraw, and still i'm crashing.

My system is not to blame. my graphics card has 2 GB of it's own RAM, plus the 8 GB my system has standalone. i can run FO3 and FNV without trouble through vast heavily modded playthroughs without a dip. I'm starting to lose hope.

My load order is as follows (after the official stuff, plus patches)

With that loadorder, one possibility could be that you are maxing out your 2gb of vram. You could check that out with the tool http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/6491.

Are you sure that Open Cities Skyrim is compatible to all that? Starting with JK's markarth, e.g.

One thing that comes to mind aswell, you could replace "The Dance of Death" with "http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/56980".

maxing out my 2gb of vram? the game uses 3.1 GB, and i got 8 standalone and 2 in the card. how am i using all of it?

I will disown the markarth mod, but everything else isn't changing the world any, i am quite sure anyway.

ok, the killmove as long as i can get those more than a small amount of the time, i would be happy.

I just used the thing... Vram is card, not standalone RAM at all, so yeah.. i seem to be using up all 2 GB of Vram. any ideas on how i can stop this? I'd rather not skim off TOO much when it comes to graphics. i already cut down a decent amount.

Well, you have these options:
- Buy a graphics card with more than 2gb vram
- reduce the amount of mods
- optimize the mods/vanilla content you have

I would strongly suggest to perform #2, think about what mods you really want to have. Option #3 would lead you to using http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12801, or even better (but more complicated) http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/5755 (I would strongly suggest to look at http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:DDSopt guide for more information regaring the latter). Optimizing textures, or even reducing the resolution of them, might help you. The question will be of course, if that will be enough for you.

Most of my mods are not performance hindering. At least i don't think so. I have system overhauls, immersion mods, and graphical ones to name most of my stuff. I got rid of all Markarth mods, i just gave my SMIM the LITE version, i had already dumbed down Skyrim HD by grabing the Lite version in the first place, and i an reducing the graphical elements, or VRAM heavy ones.

I know it may not be too big a deal, but LOOT, before i gave this thread, told me i had 10 "dirty mods" and 16 warnings, but no errors to speak of. can someone tell me what that means?

Try disabling Civil War Overhaul and see what happens. CWO has been reported many times to be extremely buggy and glitchy, is very demanding on your system, and has compatibility issues with a lot of other mods.

first off, most of your mods hinder performance and effect ram in some way shape or form. It would probably be easier to list the ones that DON'T effect it in some way.

"dirty mods" are mods that have changes in area's that are not supposed to be effect by the mod. You can "clean" them by using TES5EDIT, but make sure to do it correctly. Gopher, on youtube, has a video that can show you how to do it.

check the warnings on teh details list of the mods, that could very well be the issue.

The thing is, not only graphic mods can slow down the game. If your "overload" Skyrim's script engine (Papyrus) by using to many script heavy mods, that will reduce the general performance of Skyrim and thus of your fps rate aswell. So looking into every direction (regarding the reduction of mods) is certainly not wrong.

Regarding the warning LOOT is presenting you, those are warnings of issues that can be found inside of some .esm/.esp plugins, socalled ITMs (Identical to Master) and UDR (Undelete & Disable Reference). Watch these two videos that will give you further inside on the topic:

most of my mods came from WATCHING gopher, go figure. I was wondering where that Edit was, i already got, used, and know of FNVEdit and FO3Edit, i was wondering if Skyrim had one so i can do everything that needs a patch of some kind.

Regarding the hindering of performance, not all mods HINDER. of course mods in general will add to the usage, even by a small bit, but to HINDER would be something on a larger scale, such as Skyrim HD and SMIM. Most of my mods, alone, do not do this. Weapons, armor, shields, and smaller objects don't use up as much of my Vram alone, but together they add up and i know this, but they all should not be a problem.

You list 2 UFO patches but not the main file.

Also, WATER is sorted after its patches.

Open Cities might also be an issue since that data will load when you are getting close to a closed vanilla city. That can cause a performance hit due to cities having quite a few NPC's.

Sounds like the issue is with a mod or mods that have an impact near Whiterun. Did you change the uGrids to a value higher than 5. If so that could be part of the issue as well since higher uGrids will cause a performance hit and quite often can cause the game to crash.

So WATER is alright then?

UFO's main ESP is right above MidasSkyrim, under Skyfall's main EPS with DG and such.

I dont have uGrids, nor do i know it. I didn't get EVERY mod from Gopher, as the videos were quite old, i made sure to check only ones i seen that were interesting or felt like they would work, and went for them, made SURE they weren't dead
