Midieval Music Radio Station?

Post » Wed Jan 07, 2015 10:28 am

I listen to Pandora, I searched, Medieval Music and got a sequences/ensembles of chants and such melodies.

I am wondering if anyone knows a good Miedieval Radio Station, that plays something along the lines of the soundtrack from the 70s movie Excalibur.

Baroque is the music you want to look for.

Or Renaissance, but you may not like it as that music was more banging out notes than creating complex polyphonic sounds that we usually associate with music. Which is the main reason that Baroque is about as far back as most music lovers really want to go.

Fortunately, most of this music is in the Public Domain, so finding the music to download and listen to should be easy.

I think you mean a station devoted to classical music, since the music from Excalibur is from a mixture of periods. Been years since I last saw the movie, but I recall a good bit of Richard Wagner, who is solidly in the Romantic era. I remember a chunk for Carmina Burana, which is indeed based on early music but is itself composed in 1935, making it a fairly modern work. There are still a decent number of classical music radio stations in existence, but not nearly so many as there once were. Most of the better ones will have an internet presence. I've not listened to it in ages, but KUSC was at one time as good as any of 'em, and better than most. Whether it meets your needs I do not know, but you might give it a try.

BTW, there is more classical music at YouTube than you can shake a stick at. Like much else, it's just a matter of knowing how to search out what interests you. Here, for instance, is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fdNBjCBpaA from Wagner's Gotterdammerung, which is heard a number of times in Excalibur. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wu3x_F06JlQ, though I don't believe this one appears in the movie.

If it be Medieval era music ye seek, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GRLRm9oKUM.

I mean the epic symphonies/orchestrations.

Like, pandora has an excellent mood gathering Classical -Relaxation/Romance/Studying station.

But I am looking for something that brings War to its Essence.

as for the game, Mount and Blade Warband ***

I always listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZevwF9AH_0 when playing Mount and Blade. All his 90's works are very medieval-esque dark ambient, similar to the game's original soundtrack, but a whole lot more interesting and epic.

Medieval music is more like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dehwp_dRlYQ

Renaissance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1QjkhENZg8

Maybe that's more what you're looking for.

Or maybe more of a baroque thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od1ZbV9rutI

Though that might be a little bit too extravagant.

As far as radio stations I don't know.

I'm not sure if I have ever though of the M&B soundtrack as medieval, though I suppose it uses the right instruments at least, but most documented music from the medieval period is gregorian chants etc.
