NPC VoiceDialogue Cutting Out

Post » Thu Jan 08, 2015 5:09 pm

Hey everyone, I've been having some ongoing issues with voices cutting in and out while playing Skyrim, and am running out of ideas to fix the issue. Any help would be immensely appreciated.

What happens is that at random intervals, NPC speech will become silent, picking up again only after a few seconds, further in their sentence. As an example, Ralof might say, "Come on, we're almost to Riverwood," but what comes out is "Come on we're... Riverwood."

I'm using an integrated Realtek sound card with stereo speakers/headphones. I've seen a bunch of advice on how to fix this, but so far nothing has worked for me. I've tried:

  • Setting my sound format to 24 bit 44100 Hz and 16 bit 44100 Hz
  • Enabling virtual surround
  • Updating my drivers to the newest available version for my OS (Windows 8.1 64 bit)
  • Setting my sound configuration to 5.1
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling Skyrim, deleting the Skyrim folder in-between
  • Installing Skyrim on a different computer with a dedicated Beats sound card (issues persisted)

Some people don't seem to struggle with this issue, oddly enough. Any ideas on why this might be? Is this configuration or hardware? Maybe just an incompatibility with my motherboard?

Any advice is very much appreciated.
