External program multimonitor

Good day,

I would like to start off by saying I've enjoyed playing a number of the games that Bethesday has put out there, especially the Elder Scrolls series and Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Thank you so much for these games.

I have been searching around for multimonitor support programs and it seems that "multimonitor" in the gaming industry is pretty much limited to the concept of lining up multiple monitors side-by-side and having the sole game window run across all of the monitors. My current set up includes a single monitor on my desk, a projector unit that plays against my room's far wall, and I was thinking of adding a second monitor hanging off the wall to my right but I can't see a good use for that right now.

So what I would love to see is an external program, or a secondary game window (or maybe even more), that can be displayed on a secondary monitor, or even displayed on an auxiliary device such as through a phone or tablet app.

This auxiliary window/program could be used to display various statistics or information in the game without the player having to constantly pause the game in order to look at certain things; instead, a simple head turn or eye glance could allow the player to gather information while staying right in the action (and for those players who prefer to pause the game to gather information, they could still do that). The exact type of information would depend upon the game in question, but it could be used to display things like health and mana levels, skill and stat levels/progress-to-next-level, currently equipped weapon and armour stats, or even basic information on the enemy that you are fighting (which could further be incorporated into game design by using various means of unlocking enemy data, such as number of times the player has killed that enemy or by unlocking special information in game or even by a 'monster information' skill of some sort). I found myself constantly pausing Fallout 3/NV in order to look at weapon damage of my currently equipped weapons, and then scrolling my weapons list to see what other weapons were available that did similar damage, so maybe even just allowing an already built-in weapon/armour/aid/misc/map/quest/etc screen to be shown on the secondary monitor would be handy enough.

I understand that a lot of gamers still use a single monitor, so I'm not suggesting to base a whole game around the auxiliary screen being necessary; instead the auxiliary screen would be helpful for those who can have access to it, and if it were incorporated as a secondary game window then even those people playing on a single monitor could still have both screens open at the same time if they were okay with sacrificing some of the size of their main window. Allow for a bit of customization regarding information displayed and the dimensions of the window, and that would allow the user to decide for themself how to set up the two windows. There is a lot of information in any given game that could be displayed on a secondary/auxiliary monitor to allow the flow of the game to continue with less interruptions, and would be a potentially significant advancement in the gaming industry at large as our nations are starting to see more and more monitor-type devices being accessible to a user.

I also recognize this would require some fairly serious game/networking design considerations, and that such an undertaking would be entirely at Bethesda's own discretion, but thank you at least for reading over this post :smile:
