I'm in the mood for some 2D/Sidescroller titles lately, but I want to avoid, or at the least, minimize the amount of Platforming I have to do. Any good suggestions?

I've been playing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night in the past week (available among the PS1 classics on PSN and on XBLA for 360), and it's still a great game despite being almost 2 decades old.

It would help to know what console you're looking for, because there's 100 recommendations I could make for NES/SNES/Genesis

I agree with Freddo though, you can't go wrong with SotN.
