Hi guys, just signed up here looking for some advice and tips on creating a new mage build. I've been reading some threads on here for a while now and there's loads of good advice so I'm hoping to get in on some of that action. 360 noob here btw.
I've played this game a lot, using pretty much every build there is at some point - brutish warrior, nimble archer, sneaky assassin, as well as several mage attempts. These attempts were all enjoyable but for one reason or another I lost interest and the saves dwindled and were eventually deleted. Now I feel like I never truly devoted a character entirely to magehood and would like to rectify this. I'll list a couple of interesting things I'd like to try and utilise with this character, but I'm very much open to suggestions of unusual magic combos / little-known perk effects / roleplaying ideas / whatever you guys can think of. If I've put this in the wrong forum then I apologise!
- Urag Gro Shub's brother / son(?) - starting as an Orc mage would be pretty difficult, which is great. My thinking is gather a lot of lore. I love the huge amount of books in Apocrypha and generally enjoy reading them whenever I find a new one.
- I've seen some people complaining about it, but I've never given necromancy a try so would be interested in utilising that in some way. Is it really as bad as some people make out?
- I love illusion, and with the frenzy rune spell in DB it's very tempting to mix that in along with invisibility (potions or alteration) and sneak.
- Destruction-wise, I'd prefer to avoid fire as it's what I've always used. The paralyse affect in the ice section of the tree sounds useful. Also the wall spells are something I've never properly used. And then if I get that far, I want to use Master level spells as much as possible. I know they aren't the optimum spells, but I don't mind that. Become Ethereal allows you to cast them unhindered, right? Is there any other shouts with good synergy for mages?
- I'd love to try the master level restoration spells too.
- Heavy Armor battle mage or more realistic robed mage using alteration shields?
I'm sorry if this is a bit rambling, but I'd really just love some cool and unusual ideas for a mage character. Even interesting lesser known quests / locations as I've probably done everything in the game several times over by now.
