Mod descriptions: order and content

Post » Mon Jan 19, 2015 1:36 pm

I'm writing a http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1509798-modding-skyrim-modders-edition right now, and I've gotten to the mod page part.

So, I'd like your guys' input on WHAT a mod page should contain, and in what order.

EXAMPLE

Should contain the following, in order from beginning to end (NOT my opinion, just a really godawful example):

Installation

Credits

Author's Other Mods

Videos

Latest Updates

Mod Summary

Should probably be:

Summary

Installation

Latest Updates

Credits

Assuming that this is for the description, that's as far as it ought to go. Videos have their own tabs (on Nexus anyway, and let's face it, 99% of mods are there) and the author's other mods are easy enough to find by clicking a couple of links.

I have been accused of being old school though, so.... :P

I agree with this, specifically the latter point. Too many mod pages have their description pages full of videos their mod was 'featured' in and all sorts of other stuff. There is a videos tab for that. If I want quick info on a mod please don't make me filter through a bunch of videos that clutter the page.

I am guilty of this, I am. I've resolved to stop doing it for future mods, however. I get WHY some people do it but I agree that it's annoying.

And THAT is my new year's resolution. :P

Mods with videos sell better, those with long descriptions aren't attractive, unless the literate part of the Nexus finds it. Usually it goes like..."hey, I don't have time to read all of the comments or description, but can you tell me how's it working?"...I recall the good days in Morrowind, where long descriptions were honored and valued. Are kids spoiled theese days?

However, my structure's alwaysd like this:

News

Short Description

Download

Installation

Failsafe

Long Description

FAQ
