I See Red! (Not The Rush Song, Red Lenses)

Post » Sun Jan 25, 2015 6:56 am

For the title reference, here is Rush's song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8avwgsp159c.

I have cleared out most of the NCRCF near Primm and pvssyd with the Sheriff there. As I am going through the areas, everything (except the dead gang members) is "red." Why?

Is it "considered" still NCR property?

I do not like "stealing" in the Fallout Games and try to avoid the "red stuff." But there are Gun crates, ammo boxes, tool boxes, first aid kits, and all kind of "useful" loose stuff all over the place. I'm about to throw morality to the wind!

Does it effect one's karma like in Fallout 3? Is this a common thing I'll be running into throughout the game?

No, NCRCF is marked Powder Ganger owned. I'm not sure if the NCR claims ownership of those items if you complete the 'I Fought the Law' quest for the NCR, but whatever. Anywho, I don't have qualms stealing it if it's something I really want. You'll come to find arbitrary morality is a fun thing in Fallout games. :frog:

Come to think of it, that makes sense as I also have "bad karma" with the Powderkeggers. So "stealing" from them may be what this is about?

There's no real point to joining the Powder Gangers outside of Roleplay, so there's no real worry about having a negative reputation.

Edit: I'm pretty sure you purging NCRCF of Powder Gangers is what gave you a negative Reputation with them. Stealing only matters if you're caught.

Yes and yes. Though it doesn't matter as Karma has no real effect on the game. You can be as evil or good as you like and neither will have any consequences. Faction reputation is the only thing that matters in this game. Obsidian really dropped the ball when it comes to Karma, they may as well have just removed it entirely.

That's Powdergangers and you don't have bad karma with them, you have a bad reputation. The two are completely different things.

Well there is one NPC who may leave you, if your Karma is negative.

That's about the only consequence I can recall.

Who's that? At any rate, with the amount of karma you get from killing evil characters, and what you get from various quests, it's pretty much impossible to end up as evil anyway, no matter how much you steal. That mechanic really isn't handled very well in this game.
