Elves in the time of the Dragon Cult

Post » Sun Jan 25, 2015 8:14 am

So, loads and loads of dragons fly around in Skyrim during the time before the Dragon Wars, being worshipped as gods, and being the top of the food chain figuratively and litteraly. Dragons seeking to dominate love being worshipped, and society in Skyrim is a draconocracy (yeah, that's what I imagine the fancy term for it must be). Yet what of the Aldmer/Altmer, what of the Dwemer and the Snow Elves? Sure, the Atmorans fought the Snow Elves, but did they fight on the dragons' behalf, did the dragons aid their worshippers/subjects?

Why didn't Alduin/the dragons come after the elves, particularly the nearby Dwemer and Snow Elves, to bring them into the Dragon Cult or simply to eradicate them for not worshipping them?

(And yeah, it's probably simply something Bethesda never bothered writing about, so I'm just asking the lorebuffs and idle wanderers what they think could be the reason for the lack of books detailing wars between dragons and elves.)

Actually, I have the same questions. And another one: when did the war against the dragons happen? I'm trying to find a date, but I can't find one in the wiki

Because the Dragon Cult is a poorly implemented organization that was shoehorned into Skyrim at the last minute. Still think they would've worked better if they were a actual cult that still sort of existed in modern Skyrim, like the Sleepers in Morrowind and Mythic Dawn sleeper agents in Oblivion. It at least would give Skyrim a mundane antagonistic force that meant something outside the Thalmor. What we lost did not make up for what was..."gained", if you can call it that. Dragon War is a ridiculously cheesy name to boot.

In-Universe, I don't know. The dragons were content to do a whole lot of nothing so long as the Dragon Priests did whatever they wanted, and only got pissy when that stopped happening. My guess is that the Cult, while powerful, was detached from normal Nordic life and administration. Or at least the dragons themselves were. Aside from giving fancy masks to special priests, the Dragons actual involvement in anything didn't amount to much.

Seems to me the detached nature of the Dwemer probably meant they stayed out of it either way. Preferring just to hunker down in their holes.

And by this point had the Snow Elves taken refugee with them? (I.e. become slaves) Which could explain their lack of involvement too.
