Hearthfire--I'm not a builder. Still OK?

Post » Sun Jan 25, 2015 8:37 pm

I have been playing Skyrim since it first came out. Happily downloaded Dragonborn and Dawnguard. Not Heathfire. I don't like building things.

Is it still worth buying for someone who mostly interested in just fighting and roaming? Oh, I am not a super computer dude, which is why

I haven't attempted DLing mods. Any thoughts appreciated.

Hearthfire is not only about building houses, it also allows the player to adopt two children provided that he or she owns one or more of the houses already available in the base game.

Well if you want to adopt kids and stuff you can still do that...

Building is fairly quick and simple, but yeah if you don't care for it you don't have to do it.

You don't need to be super computer literate to use mods - though I'd suggest adding them one at a time!

I'd recommend using a mod with Hearthfire - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/25310/?, for example - because it can be time-consuming to collect all the pieces, though I really do love the finished house. There are loads of brilliant mods for Hearthfire: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2982344

I went into detail in a https://reinspired.wordpress.com/2012/09/09/hearthfire-vs-build-your-own-home/ I wrote a while back, regarding my thoughts on Hearthfire:

Contrary to most Skyrim gamers, hearthfire is my favorite DLC. The DLC is really rewarding, when you finally find another piece of glass, straw or manage to slay a sabre cat so you can add another little thing to improve your house. I also avoid buying materials for my house to improve the feeling of really working to own your house.

The amount of materials you need is impressive, but I treat as a game itself, roaming the forests of Falkreath, looking for mines and goats is part of the game for me. However, I can totally understand princess_stomper, not everybody enjoys this. And even if you just add the materials with a mod, the finished house is one of the best houses you can get in Skyrim.
