Elite: Dangerous or Star Citizen?

So I'm looking to get a space sim because the discovery of No Man's Sky led me to discover Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen. But I'm torn on which I should invest in. I'm leaning more towards Elite: Dangerous because it is in a "finished" state and will eventually have more content added (like space walking, walking in ship / station / on planet and a few other neat sounding things. Star Citizen is still pretty much being developed but is not officially released and also promises to have similar features to Elite: Dangerous.

So which would you buy? What technical aspects or knowledge can you talk about that would lead you to that conclusion?

Wow, I haven't played Elite in 30 years. It looks different... yet curiously the same.

I admit that wasn't an especially useful answer. :/

It was fun, but my recollections are vague. I remember I seemed preoccupied trying to get enough money to buy decent beam lasers, and then a docking computer so I didn't have to faff about trying to align my knackered old spaceship with the letterbox on a rotating space station.

I should really check out the updated version. I imagine it's moved on since eight bits, 32K of memory and a cassette recorder.
