Skyrim Stability

Hi,
I had an issue when I last heavily played Skyrim a year ago, I would be grateful for feedback on.
Every time I played Skyrim, starting a fresh with a new character, I found it would be 100% stable until about 80 to 90 hours in, where by it would start crashing every hour or two. The crashes could be anywhere outside, just wondering around Skyrim. I re-rolled 3 times and each time I'd get 80 to 90 hours in and stability would suddenly become an issue.Where by I'd go from no crashes at all to one every hours or two.
Yes my skyrim was graphically modded but done correctly with sorted load orders etc and none of them were scripted. I also played with the unofficial patches, official patches and all dlc. Incidentally I found my save files had just got to around 9mb to 10mb in size when the stability issues hit. But from all my research at the time, that file size was normal and certainly did not appear to be bloated. So my conclusion was after 3 attempts, that the late game of Skyrim was just buggy and induced stability problems.
Was I wrong and if so what could have been the cause? Could it have been the unofficial patches? Should I just retry with no mods at all? Can anyone confirm 100%, that vanilla does not show these symptoms after 80 to 90 plus hours?
I'd like to return to Skyrim but not if its going to always become unstable, just when my toon starts to get into the higher levels. If people are playing several hundred hours of Skyrim with 100% stability, then I may return, totally mod free and without the unofficial patches. But at a 90 hours test marker I'm apprehensive of it all being a waste of time.
Win 7 64 bit and usual high end kit btw.
Cheers for feedback/thoughts.

This helped me enormously for Skyrim and the Fallout games: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/32363/?tab=4&&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fcomments%2F%3Fmod_id%3D32363%26page%3D1%26sort%3DDESC%26pid%3D0%26thread_id%3D925691&pUp=1

Especially Cleanmem.

Hi,

Unfortunately I dont have mod order any more as I uninstalled Skyrim last year. No I didnt use ini edits, nor did I bash, yes I did clean the unofficial patches only (iirc - it was a year ago I'm afraid). PC specs win7 64bit, 16gb ram, GTX980 sli (was a single 780 last year), i7 3770k all stock. Anyway, perhaps easier if I asked this differently.

Was my issue common and/or is vanilla Skyrim 100% stable even after 100's of hours? If so an easy solution might be for me to simply roll vanilla.

Thanks

Are you using mods right now? IF so, you have a load order. You might try Skyrim with a single GPU rather than SLI. See what that does.

Skyrim is stable. I have never had issues with stability vanilla or otherwise.

No, I'm only just now downloading it again. Like I say this was a question really to gauge if I should be reinvesting my time with it. If you say you've never had any stability issues then for me that's a good incentive for me to try vanilla again. :)
