Future Engine Changes and modability

Post » Tue Feb 03, 2015 3:16 am

I have noticed people often seem to say they would like to see future TES/FO titles use instead of what they have been using

but the major benefit to the engine(s) they have been using is how easy it is for modders to make additional content..

So, would you want a future Bethesda title to run off a more advanced engine, if as a result it made the game much harder to make and use mods for?

(Note: I am well aware we have two threads for the Discussion of future games, but I still decided to make this as I felt like we needed a poll to gauge peoples reactions.. If a mod wants to lock this, no hard feelings and I apologize)

Mods are one of the core features of TES, has been ever since Morrowind. I understand that it doesn't apply to console gamers, but TES has always been a 'PC first, port to consoles' kind of deal, as far as I'm aware.

Less mods = less interest in the game, for me at least. I'd still buy it, but I certainly wouldn't be playing it 3 years later (or in the case of Morrowind, more than 10 years later). By all means I'd love to have an updated engine ... but not if it cuts into modability. Skyrims engine was fine for what it is, even though plenty of people complain about it.
