Computer turning off randomly

Post » Sun Feb 08, 2015 8:28 am

Been dealing with this for about a week now.. I installed a ssd recently (as a second drive not replacing the old) so I still have a hdd that I keep my os on but I figured I would reinstall Oblivion to the ssd for some faster load times. Everything went well up until my computer just flat out turned off and rebooted. This has been happening pretty much at random intervals of 30 minutes to 30 seconds whenever I play and I've tried everything I can think of. There are few pages that come up on google and none have any proper fixes. I have re-installed the game countless times through steam too my ssd and even my old hard drive. Many suggest that it is either temperature or Psu issues but I can run any game including skyrim 2k-4k textures on one of the most intense Enbs for hours with no issue. If anyone can be of assistance I would really appreciate it.

You'll need to go into the Windows Event Viewer. On Windows 8 you should be able to go there by: Pressing the Win Key + W, then typing "Event Viewer" in the search box (no quotes). I would start in the Application or System categories. Look for any Errors (red) or Warning (yellow) at approx. the same time as the restart.

It could be a BSoD (or Windows 8 equivalent), or a temperature threshold exceeded on the GPU/CPU or other hardware.

edit: Please post anything that might be relevant.

Check your temperature units - are those actually Fahrenheit numbers? Because most CPU/GPU/other peripheral temperatures are reported in degrees Celsius.

If those are Fahrenheit temperatures, then the ones for the CPU and GPU seem rather low; most GPUs, for instance, when working properly, idle at around 40 oC (104 oF). Have you checked temperatures when these components are under load?
