Justification for joining Stormcloaks as non-Nord?

Post » Wed Feb 11, 2015 1:23 am

I've played through both the Imperial and Stormcloak storylines many times. I actually am not dead set on which side I think is more in the right. (I think it's suppose to be that way). Anyway, I've thought, why would a non-Nord join the stormcloaks? I thought maybe if there's a person who was very religious but was a (racial) Imperial or something that they might still side with the stormcloaks, but would an Imperial be too loyal to the empire? I do think it is interesting to note that Viola of Windhelm is a (racial) Imperial.

Thoughts? Have any of you sided with the stormcloaks as a race other than Nord and if so why (story-line wise)?

"Would an Imperial be too loyal to the Empire?"

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Farmer_(NPC) (The second one) There's also mention of a Redguard who left his family to join the Stormcloaks. Basically, if you believe in "the cause" then your race shouldn't hold you back.

Anyways, I joined as an Argonian, with her main motive being to try and soothe tensions in Windhelm between Nords, Dunmer, and Argonians. It ended tragically, but there you go.

Hatred for the current Empire and/or the Aldmeri Dominion is cause enough for anyone to side with the rebels as they don't just affect Skyrim, they have a claim to all the provinces.

A half-Nord who grew up in Nordic culture would certainly be willing to fight for Skyrim, I think, no matter their inherited maternal race.

Those are all very good points. It just seems weird that there's not much diversity in the stormcloak army, or the imperial one for that matter. Sure, Skyrim is mostly Nords, but there are many non-nords all over the place and the war matters to them, as Haggar said.

"Even an elf can be born with the heart of a Nord,"

I don't think every pro Nord statement in the game is ment to be taken to mean the Nord race but Nord ideas. If you have those then you are a Nord. This is based on things I've picked up and how passing to different realms of Aetherius works as wikis detail. Living like a Nord, thinking like a Nord and dying like a Nord is enough to grant you Sovngarde so maybe that can hold true in the more basic senses.

as others have said, it is mostly personal. In general, as long as you believe in the ideals of the cause of the rebellion, you are fine (though it may end up being you may have to get used to being treated as a second class citizen compared to Nords).

I've joined the Stormcloaks both as a Dunmer and Redguard. My Dunmer's reasoning: "Where was the Empire during the Oblivion Crisis?" "Where was the Empire during the Argonian invasion?" My Redguard's reasoning was: "The Empire tried to cede Hammerfell to the Thalmor!"

Non- Nords have a hard time justifying their joining the Stormcloaks, at least in my opinion. Anyone can join the legion and easily fit in.

As I see it:

Nords - can join either side easily.

Imperials - Stormcloaks possibly by having some Nord ancestors, religious convictions or something like that.

Bretons - Could go Stormcloak with the Nord ancestors, religious convictions or pro-Forsworn that wants chaos to allow the Reach to break free

Redguard - Could feel sore about the empire and join the stormcloaks to get back, or the ancestors/religious bit.

Argonian - could go stormcloak to foster better Nord/Argonian relations, might just dislike the empire.

Khajiit - Could be an undercover Thalmor agent trying to weaken the empire. Maybe some sort of rabid empire hater. hard to see another reason considering how racist Nords are and how Khajiit are not allowed in cities.

High Elf - I'd find it hard to believe that the Stormcloaks would let an elf in in the first place. Getting past that plot hole you could go as an undercover Thalmor agent trying to weaken the empire.

Dunmer - Could join as a Riften style dark elf that has integrated with ord society as opposed to the Windhelm ghetto dunmer.

Orc - Could join as a supporter for more independence for the Orc strongholds.

All in all you need to comeup with more of a backstory to support the Stormcloaks as a non-Nord, joining as a non-human is even harder. Too bad one can not join or at least support the Thalmor in game, that would have been a nice option especially if they had incorporated a faction system more similar to fallout new vegas.

Well, judging from dialogue, it's only the Caravan Khajiit that are not allowed into cities, and with good reason. They ARE smugglers and thieves and have criminals in their employ. There's also one (two?) instances of Khajiit entering cities. One during the main quast and for the "two?" apparently travelers from Elsweyr to Markarth were pretty common before the Forsworn attacks.

As for High Elves, the ones living in Windhelm seem to be doing pretty well. You do get a test of loyalty before you can even join after all. (Though what I do find to be a plothole is going to the farthest edge of Skyrim to kill an Ice Wraith with absolutely no proof that you actually did. You don't even get somone to supervise you or anything, and for all they know you could have just bought the teeth.)

The Stormcloak faction is for Argonians looking to "stick-it" to Morrowind, Dominion sympathizers and fools.

Stormcloak fans who think they are being "anti-Dominion" or "anti-Thalmor" are mistaken as they are supporting the Thalmor agenda.
