For me, I'd say for the most part I can enjoy all genres besides one: JRPGs. I've attempted them before with the likes of FFX but I just can't get into it. Not very big on anime either. Maybe my mind is too western.
Can't get into Shooters. I have a couple of them. One of the Far Cry games and one of the Halos, so they should be good. But, the endless bullet spraying and endless mobs just annoy me.
I'm only interested in rpg, action/rpg, and strategy especially grand strategy.
I especially dislike sports and fps.
I would say I've been very diverse with game type my whole life. More recently though, I've found that some types are not as good as they once were.
Consistently though, I stay away from Horror based games. A little scares here and there in an adventure is awesome. A whole game dedicated to it is not my style.
Plus, I'm a scaredy cat
Ack! I forgot about those as well. Those are a no go for me too.
The funny thing is though, several years ago I wouldn't say the same. I don't watch any sports but oddly loved Madden because I could get into the playing, management, and coaching of it all. I won't bother now because I finish one season in franchise and again I'm like "I don't even like sports.... I'm bored."
Nope: Stealth, 4X, Sports (exception: SSX), Flight/Space Sim, Multiplayer (Arena Shooter, Team shooter, MOBA, etc), Boss fight/combo action (DMC, Bayonetta, Dark Souls, etc), Fighter (Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, etc)
Meh: Racing, RTS,
Yeah!: RPG, JRPG, ARPG, FPS (single player), Minecraft-likes, non-boss-focused third-person action (Ratchet & Clank, etc)
Action RPGs, Sport games of any kind and Fps like COD or 3rd person shooters like Gears of war.
Horror. Well, its not like i have tried to get into it. Being scared is a inherently negative/unpleasant feeling. I stay well clear of anything horror.
It should be noted that i am very easily scared, even by really bad horror. Just cant handle it.
Not really into sports games, though i will play them when im at my friend's house, im not bad at them (im actually pretty good), but i dont really enjoy them too much, especially ones now a days.
I liked sports games in the 90s for snes, like Mutant League hockey and Monster League Football, those games were awesome.
I'm not that big into RTS games anymore, the last one i played was Starcraft (which i got really good at), but it got dull on me and i dont really play anymore. I like the Total War games, but they're like semi RTS (as you can pause and give orders) and turn based (the other half of the game).
I don't like god of war hack n slashers, games like Force unleashed, God of war, darksiders, etc. I do like the Conan hack n slasher, but mostly cus it's conan, and also it's really challenging and requires tactics on harder difficulties, whereas most hack n slashers arent like that at all.
I don't like the assassins creed games, they're all the same cookie cutter crap that they release every year (or like last year, 3 in a year). Not sure what genre that is, I'd say a platformer, but it really isnt a platformer. All you do is hold one button and move the joystick in a direction and you can climb anything and everything with no effort what so ever. The first 3 Prince of persia games did platforming like 10x better than Assassin's creed, and actually had a challenge to them. The AC games are more like a god of war hack n slasher i guess, as you stand there and hit one button and can kill 40 dudes without ever being hit once.
I do like shooters and military shooters, i just dont like Call of duty because i can see and feel the bad quality and the not caring about the game pouring off of it while i play (plus they are ridiculously easy as far as shooters go). I do really like Battlefield (though i havent played 4 yet).
MMO games are another genre im not interested in whatsoever. I used to be big into MMOs over 10 years ago (actually before WoW came out), then when Wow came out, everything tried to copy that and MMOs just turned to crap. I did play the star trek one for a bit, that one was pretty good. But there arent any more good hardcoe MMOs like Tibia was 10 years ago (even Tibia has turned into utter crap). I also liked runescape when it still had 2d and 3d graphics, before it became "runescape 2" which is basically what everyone knows as runescape. I stopped playing when they converted the game into all the 3d crap (which i think i heard they did AGAIN).
I'm not big into fighting games anymore (street fighter, mortal kombat etc). I used to play them a lot, Street fighter Alpha 2 was one of my favourite street fighter games ever. Marvel Vs Capcom 2 was also really friggen awesome. And soul Caliber 2 was good too. But otherwise i dont play those games much anymore, that genre just got stale for me personally.
Not that big into racing games, though i have played a few that i enjoy. Gran Turismo 2 was my favourite racing game probably, played so many hours of that game on simulation mode. I also liked Need For Speed Hot pursuit (i think it was that one, back in high school me and my friends used to get drunk and try to get away from the cops on heat level 4 all the time). But i havent played a racing game in a long time.
I'm also not huge into JRPG games much anymore. I cant remember the last good one i played, but my favourite games that i always replay are Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy 8 and 9 and Legend of Dragoon. Those are the best JRPG games ive played, but that genre basically dropped off on me since Final fantasy 10 (which i really didnt like for many different reasons). When Squaresoft was around, that was the peak of the JRPG era IMO.
Basically the games i enjoy now are WRPGs like Fallout, Elder Scrolls, KOTOR, Dragon age, Wasteland, Mount & Blade, etc and Turn based tactical RPGs like Xcom, Jagged Alliance, Fire Emblem, Divinity Original Sin etc.
I also like some FPS with RPG elements like Bioshock, System Shock, etc.
I love the GTA franchise all the way through.
And i like stealth games like Thief, Dishonoured, Metal gear solid, etc.
I also have a soft spot for old school RPG adventure games like Quest For Glory (hero's quest), Police Quest, Kings Quest, and just old school open RPGs like Ultima (4 being my personal favourite).
Sports, pure horror and military shooters. Anything than that might get a second glance from me
I'm into RPGs like Fable and The Elder Scrolls more than anything else.. other games I'll likely get are Wolfenstein, Elite: Dangerous and Dying Light. I remember playing classic Wolfenstein a lot when I was a kid, I love space games so Elite: Dangerous would fit, and Dying Light caught my interest after I watched a twitch stream of it.
Everything else is of no interest to me at all.
