alternative to using an air can for case cleaning

Post » Thu Feb 12, 2015 5:40 pm

Is there a cheaper, but yet effective way to clean the inside of my PC case than an air can? I'm just asking because the expense of those cans start to add up.

I was thinking of an electric bicycle tire pump, but someone told me no because the air from it has moisture.

I use http://www.amazon.co.uk/Giottos-GTAA1900-Rocket-Air-Blower/dp/B00017LSPI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1423707179&sr=8-1&keywords=giottos+rocket. It's pretty good. Quite powerful. More expensive than an air can initially but it least it doesn't run out of air.

Then you won't need to dust it out.

Seriously, the amount of dust that will get into a well-made case if you install filters is very minimal. Just clean the filters every 6 months or so. A helluva lot easier.

I use an air compressor and an airbrush, you can get a good blast of air to move dust, its good because it serves 2 purposes for me, but it was also recommended by computer repair guy who uses a compressor to blast the dust out of cases.

I have the Metro Vacuum ED500 DataVac 500-Watt 0.75-HP Electric Duster 120 volt (linked below) and it works very well. It's a bit expensive, but depending on how much you use compressed air will be cheaper over time. Additionally, you don't have to worry about turning it upside down and destroying your components as you do with compressed air. That being said, I agree with the notion that if you don't have dust filters you should get those first.

I use a Artists' fan brush animal hair not plastic and vacuum. High speed air not from a can but a shop compressor will creat static electricity zzzzzzzap and can spit water and oil.

Some canned air has antistatic additives which is a good thing.

FYI most compressed air canisters don't have air in them but gasses that are not naturally found in air and can be toxic, especially if you hold the canister upside down.

A shop compressor can also produce dangerously high air flow velocities, high enough to cause physical damage to components.
