Returned to the game after 7 years

Hi everyone,

I've been a PS3 gamer from 2012 until late last year. Bethesda games have always been my favourite, and so when on the PS3 I decided to relive the joy I once experienced on 360. It was not to be however.

Due to the games being so buggy for the PS3, I decided enough was enough and bought a new 360. I know its not the games that were kack, as on 360 I never experienced any problems. I think its because the PS3 was so hard to code for, that the early ports just didn't stand a chance.

None the less, I'm back and with my new copies of my four favourite Bethesda games. Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

So I've just started Oblivion and oh my how the fond memories came flooding back. Still feels silky smooth to play and the land is just as gorgeous as ever.

Now even though I really enjoy getting 100% achievement completion on my games. When it comes to Bethesda game, the achievements are a small percentage of what the actual game offers. So with that in mind I have a few questions, and don't worry about spoilers as I still remember the full story.

1: What were the do's and don't for this game. Were there any serious things you could do to early that could screw up a future mission?

2: Aside from the guilds and story missions, could you guys link me to a quest list for side missions.

3: What game play skill tips can you offer? I remember the armour one in the basemant where you let the rats hammer the crap out of you. Sneaking in prison. What other cool stuff is handy to have. I mostly tank or use the bow & arrow, but would like to experience other things on offer.

Thanks in advance.

1. Because of the Level Scaling, you don't want your character to gain levels too fast, especially with regards to the MQ and you want to keep NPCs alive. So, do not make skills like Athletics your major. In fact, it is a good idea to not make your main weapon and armor skills a major also for the same reason. Other than that, just play the game. The few quest specific dungeons will either give you the quest before you go in, or let you hold the item you find until you need it later.

3. See #1 before you "power level" anything. Again, with the scaling in this game, you can complete it at level 1, or whatever level you want. However there is a point around L15 to L20 that the mobs get to be a bit difficult if you have not leveled your fighting/defense skills along with your character. But, if you make your F/D skills Minors, they should keep up with you as you go along.

4. Alchemy is your friend in this game and it's easy to level, so as you run through the forest, gather ingredients (I spam the Activate key as I run past the plants). Get 2,000 gold so you can get the house in the main city and add in some storage. This way you have a place to put some SWAG until you gain enough gold to buy a bigger house or you earn one from the game

5. MQ, I would advise that you either decide to skip it entirely, or, focus on it from the exit of the sewers. Again, because of the scaling. But, I say this as I hate the landscape being littered with the remains of Oblivion Gates. I have a mod on the PC version that even stops them from spawning other than the 3 that need to for the MQ.

A more enjoyable way to get the armor/repair/block/attack skills up is to visit bandit and marauder dungeons. This way you are power-training while actually playing TES4:Oblivion rather than Whack-A-Mole.

Bandits deserve special mention because they are split between archers and meleers. Close in on an archer, and he will whip out a dagger that does next to no damage to you. Though with marauders, you can repair their gear after you kill them :D
