I'm not a native speaker ( I'm from Shanghai). So this description is full of quotes.

:D

Skyrim is the name of the province of Tamriel where the events of the game take place. The Khajiit are a race of feline humanoids from the province of Elsweyr on Tamriel. I don't think the words themselves have any meaning beyond just being labels assigned by the game developers when they were creating the lore for the series.

天际是一个名字,不认为这有什么特别的意义,因为它是由开发人员创建的,据我所知。虎人确实是上古卷轴世界的猫人种族。

Tiānjì shì yīgè míngzì, bù rènwéi zhè yǒu shé me tèbié de yìyì, yīnwèi tā shì yóu kāifā rényuán chuàngjiàn de, jù wǒ suǒ zhī. Hǔ rén quèshí shì shànggǔ juànzhóu shìjiè de māo rén zhǒngzú.

Google translate...

Skyrim is a name, don't think it has any special meaning, since it was created by the developers as far as I know. Khajiit are indeed a cat-man race of the Elder Scrolls world.

"Khajiit" comes from the in-game language of the cat-men, it can translate to "Desert Walker" or "of the desert" or something like that and it's how they refer to themselves.

Skyrim is made of two words: http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/sky and http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english-french/rim. :)

Skyrim is called such because it is one of the most mountainous regions in Tamriel. It is the "Rim of the Sky", so to speak. Nord mythology says the Throat of The World, now the tallest mountain in Tamriel (second tallest before Red Mountain blew up), is where Kyne, the goddess of the sky (modern cyrodiilic counterpart: Kynareth), breathed the world into existence as part of Shor's plan to create the Mundus, or Mortal Plane.

Hmm... just a quick question for a lore buff... In Daggerfall and Arena the Khajiit seemed to be humans, but from Morrowind onwards they seem to be beasts... what is that all about? The OP got me thinking about it that's all.
