Skyrim 4 Years later:Thoughts

Post » Fri Feb 20, 2015 1:14 pm

This may seem random, but I've been seeing less and less about skyrim on the internet lately, especially since bethesda decided to stop patching it. Most of what's left is just fun little videos or mods to make the base game better, and little anolysis and discussion like in the early days. I'm not sure if people just lost interest or if they're just using so many mods that they dont even care about the base game anymore, but I'm wondering what you, the people of Betheda sofworks forums, think about Skyrim after the novelty has worn off. Did you like it? How did it compare to the past games? What would you do differently if you could make a game in the same vein as skyrim? Do you think the elder scrolls needs more competition to encourage the series to improve upon itself? Or is it perfect the way it is?

This is the critical bit... I was just commenting on this very topic in another thread. (some might call it bloviating ;) )

Far from it. But I still love it and can't stop playing it.

The game is four years old. All the mysterious have been anolyzed long ago so they aren't "hot topics" anymore.

And the Skyrim forum here is still quite busy. New players are always showing up to discuss things with the long-time players.

If you browse the TES Series forum, you can quickly find answers your questions, as those topics get discussed all the time.

From previous posts you've made, you seem to think Skyrim is a dead game and you want to "save it" by making random threads. But for a 4 year old game, it is still thriving quite well. The modding community is a large part of that, but a game this popular will continue to thrive for decades.

Take a look at Skyrim nexus. The modding community is incredibly vibrant and people are still creating innovative mods for the game. Take a look at projects like Beyond Skyrim - there still is a huge amount of interest in those - all created off the back of Skyrim and as a complement to Skyrim.

3400+ hours of gameplay. Best game I've ever played. HOWEVER, somewhere between 1500-2000 hours, it was getting kind of stale. It was possible to encounter a place or event that I had never seen before, but those had gotten pretty rare. Then I started to pile on the mods. (75+ at the moment.) With a constant flow of new mods to affect gameplay, add content, new locations, and new characters, it will undoubtedly keep me entertained until The Elder Scrolls VI comes along. Without those mods, I would have wandered off to immerse myself in other games.

Exactly my current situation - around 2000 hours and seriously considering getting a PC to run Mods. This seems like a natural path for the console players.

To the OP: been reading many articles about how the rate at which mods are being created is actually higher now than when the game was new. Nope, Skyrim is a different paradigm/model of how a company, the players, and a modding community interact. You simply can't pigeon-hole Skyrim with other video games and scratch your head while muttering '... all those other games are gone, this one should be too...'

I think Skyrim will remain reasonably popular until the next TES game is released at which point interest may fade a little. I havn't played it for 8 months and won't play the game again although it still remains my favourite game of all time. I spent a lot of time playing with various characters until there really was nothing left to do or see at which point I stopped. Great game and I don't regret a minute I spent playing it, but for me it just came to a natural conclusion and so I moved on to other games.

I agree with you completely I for one loved the game and I don't regret playing it however eventually it came to a conclusion that said all games eventually lose popularity.

Keep in mind the game isn't even three-and-a-half years old yet, technically.

I still play it and still love it. 4 years is nothing, I'm sure I'll still be going in this game 4 years from now. I'm not even sure what other games out there are like, it's been so long since I've played anything other than Oblivion, Fallout 3, or Skyrim. I'll get into Sims 3 every now and again, but I can't get enough of TES.
