Help with adding custom voices to a custom race

Hey all, I'm having trouble getting a custom voice to work with a custom race. I apologize in advance if this is answered a thousand times elsewhere, but I did search extensively before posting, I promise. Disclaimer: I am definitely a novice when it comes to the CK and editing mods, I know the basics of some things due to some self-teaching with the wiki and some youtube videos, but I surely have a lot to learn.

I'm trying to get the mod Skyrim Player Re-Voiced - Elven Races Complete to work with the playable Breton Child race from RS Children Overhaul, and I'm about out of ideas. Apologies for not posting links to these mods, but for some reason when I try to I'm told I don't have permission to post links for some reason. I've tried these two strategies so far:

1) First I tried simply changing the Breton Child's default voice type in the CK to maleelfhaughty, which is the voice that gets replaced/updated by the voice mod. Nothing changes in game.

2) Then I downloaded the voice mod .zip archive to my desktop, unpacked the .bsa, renamed the maleelfhaughty folders to malechild, repacked it all and installed it with NMM. Again, no change, and yes I made sure to change the Breton Child voice type back to malechild in the CK.

At this stage I'm kind of stuck and not sure what to try next. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks for reading.
