Compass "Foe Markers" Do Not Show on Compass...

Post » Wed Mar 11, 2015 2:05 am

The red "Foe Markers" don't show up on the compass until the enemies are about 30 feet away even when my PERCEPTION is 10. Normally PER is 7 or 8 but anyhow there is this annoying Perception glitch.

SPECIAL points were invested into PER specifically to have the "red warning ticks" show on the compass at a far distance to avoid unwanted encounters.

I did an experiment and found out this issue only happens when Fallout Wanderer's Edition (FWE) Mod is installed.

On my other PC I un-installed FWE and all mods, then "deleted all local game files" and the re-downloaded FO3 in Steam. Played a few minutes, quit out and then one by one started re-installing mods -- but not FWE.

I did install all other mods though.

On the PC with FWE installed, these warning markers don't show up on the compass until so close (about 20 ~ 30 in-game feet away) that enemies are already aware of your presence.

On the PC with *no* FWE installed and a Perception even at 6 the enemy markers show up on the compass fairly far away (about 70 feet maybe). With PER 10 there are no surprises because enemies off in the distance show on the compass

Does anyone know how to fix this FWE Perception-Compass Warning Marker glitch?

[Edit -- one last (maybe important?) note: The PC with FWE also has Darnified UI installed, the one without FWE does not.]

You might be able to change some of the settings in FWE in game. If not likely the mod creator thought the perception range was too long and so it is not a glitch.

That is exactly it. FWE is supposed to make the game harder, so the perception range was reduced significantly for this mod.

Both of you, thanks for the reply.

Though I **love** the enhanced difficulty of FWE (I keep the settings at FWE default) there are two things about FWE I didn't (don't) like:

?"Broken" Perception (the compass markers not showing until close because PER is now almost useless).

?The Canterbury Commons traders mostly having Repair Skill 100 (it makes the game too easy/makes Crazy Wolfgang useless).

That being said, I believe I've found the FWE setting that changes the configuration for the Perception associated compass markers:

I had the Sneak settings at FWE's 'default' but when I changed it to the "vanilla" setting the red enemy markers on the compass started showing up at what I think is the default distance.

I'll experiment a bit more, but I'm fairly sure that's the setting.

I don't want to make sneaking easier, but, I'm willing to sacrifice that to have the default perception.

When I first played I thought having a "radar" was weird but then looking at the picture on the Perception page in the "You're SPECIAL" book, it dawned on me that the developers just turned not only seeing, but also smelling, hearing, and feeling into the red "radar" compass markers. After that I got an appreciation for perception.

So I guess you're both right -- it's not a glitch after all. It's a feature!
