Books In Games: How Many Have You Read?

Post » Wed Mar 11, 2015 7:29 am

OK, a follow-up question. Do you read them as you find them, or do you take the load someplace and sit down to a fine afternoon of reading? Perhaps some wine or ale or mead to keep the mouth wet? Some sweet rolls nearby to sate that inevitable hunger?

The Midas mod comes with superballs. Now I'm going to have to start leaving them atop alters to see what happens.

Regarding books, I read some when I find them and others I take for reading later. Depends on the circumstances.

That's a bit excessive don't you think?

It is a game. And the food and drink doesn't do anything for you ~ or ~ your PC.*

* Alchemical properties and effects aside, and assuming you aren't running a mod that requires your PC to eat and/or sleep. Which I think should be in vanilla TES. Vamps and Lycans have to feed or die, why not all PCs? As a Dunmer, I'd like to see some roast horse in game as well, but I digress.

Anyway, I read them as I find them.

I usually read them later, but "Night Falls On Sentinel" (I think that was the one) I kept forgetting to read before turning it in for the quest. I finally stood at the Smithy and read it before handing it in :)

I did read "Immortal Blood" when I found it, though...

It sounds like roleplaying to me. The idea is that your character has a life.

Dargor, there's no need to have the Telvanni work on creating slime creatures, we already have House Hlaalu for that.

I've probably read 95% or more of the books available in Morrowind, plus a fair number of them from Oblivion, and one or two from Daggerfall (extremely limited time with that game). Whether that tops 100, I'm not sure without checking some kind of reference or list, so I chose 50-100.

Most of the time, my characters will read them when it's safe to do so, generally after a site is cleared and it's time to take stock of whatever isn't nailed down (or is, but can be pried loose). A few will be taken off-site and read later.

I bet you're over the hundred mark :)

I can imagine you in Illinata's Deep or Fellglow Keep after clearing and just reading book after book after book... :D

I'm pretty certain I've read over 100. Several of my characters have been avid book hunters and collectors. The mod "Books Books Books" adds over 200 books from past games to Skyrim so we know there are well over 200 books to read in the series. I usually read them shortly after finding them (unless there is an enemy present, not quite that much of a bookworm )

I have read most of the Skyrim ones which is well over 100. In Oblivion I collected a lot of books, decorated a few homes with them, but do not remember reading them all, but that was a fair while ago, I would have read a fair few but I think never got a full collection of books. I have read about 3 in Morrowind, I have not really got that advanced in the game.

I usually tend to read them when I collect them, or if in a hurry I read them while arranging them. In Skyrim I actually went back and read a few after they had been put on the shelves, I always forget them so do not mind reading them again. And on the PC the Book Covers mod certainly made the bland Skyrim covers a lot more interesting to potential readers.

I read them as I find them and then more often than not again when I either sell them or place them in my library. That's probably one of the reasons why where many do a play through in a few months or less I've spent three (current Morrowind run) to four (longest Oblivion run) years in a single play through. It's not like I haven't read them all before either, The books are just an interesting distraction.

Countless, so I voted 101 or more. I've spent a lot of uncounted hours (literally uncounted because the time spent in a book doesn't get recorded into the savefile time) reading books in both Oblivion and Skyrim.

my favorite book to date is "A Game At Dinner"
