I recently got a new computer with better specs than my last one. I was really looking forward to play Skyrim on something else than minimal quality. I downloaded it but immediately when i opened either my inventory, magic menu or the ESC menu and the text popped up everything started to lag. It's not lag in opening them but the frame rate decreases drastically so that it is almost impossible to select or do anything within those menus.

I have tried to uninstall and re install the game multiple times but the issue is still there.

Do you use any mods? From the nexus or steam workshop?

Please run dxdiag.exe and post the full report in the spoiler tags.

Does this happen with a new game. Are you using game saves from the previous computer. That might be part of the issue if you are not using the same mods.

I seem to have a few dxdiag.exe. Can you give me the file location?

It happens in both old and new games. Even the title screen when i try to load a game.

I thing, its in your system32 folder.

Path: C: \ windows \ system32 \ dxdiag.exe

A few? That's unusual. What are the paths to the dxdiags? Can you post them?

The OP is not using mods.

dxdiag.exe is found in the C:\Windows\SysWow64 and C:\Windows\SxS directories, along with System32.

@OP the 32-bit version is fine. Just type: dxdiag , in the search box in the Start Menu and press enter, by default it uses the one in System32.

The start menu textbox should only show 1 dxdiag. Yes there are multiple exes.

If you are running a 64-bit OS you need to hit the 64 bit button at the bottom.

First of, you could check under the Options section of the Skyrim Launcher.

You should see at Graphics adapter this: AMD Radeon HD 8650G + 8750M (or similar)

Also in your SkyrimPrefs.ini change those values to zero (0) - located in C: \ Users \ *YourUserID* \ Documents \ My Games \ Skyrim

iPresentInterval=0 (if you don't have this add it at the end of the Display section)

Also go to your CCC (catalyst control center) GPU menu.

Click the "Gaming" tab. Click "3D Application Settings". Scroll down to where it says "Wait for Vertical Refresh" and make sure the slider is set to "Always off" or similar. Click Apply if you changed anything. !!!

Alright update time.

Firstly to Mark41.

I could not find either of the valuse in my Skyrim.ini file (and still dont) so i decided to try making a save to see if I needed more data and it seems playing in windowed mode works. It's a horrible experience seeing to it being so small but it works. Another thing i saw was that my Skyrim runs with DirectX1o while I have DirectX11 Does that change anything?

Commenting on the last link: It's not that i have bad fps in game while playing it only happens with text on the screen. If thats the same i will try but still, it's something fishy going on.

Skyrim is a DX9-only game. There is no DX10 renderer or DX11 renderer in this game. DirectX 9.0c is what is used.

In my Skyrim directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim) there is a folder named "DirectX10" which is why I think that my skyrim uses DirectX10

What is a clean boot. I did factory reboot my computer a month ago or so is that the same?

It's an update with dx10 dx11 stuff. It's probably just that ....an update. I believe Skyrim still just uses dx9.

From quick research it looks like they may have planned to support higher dx versions which apparently didnt work out.

Check the link for the clean boot stuff. It is different from a factory reset.

Also, those values to add, are not in your Skyrim.ini file.

There are in your SkyrimPrefs.ini file. !!! (Therefore you couldn't find those)

If you would read my post #10 more carefully, it would be an advantage for you. (it may, or may not of course)

Toward stated before Skyrim release this:

I really don't know, if they have implemented something, to enable that future.

What you did, is a factory reset or factory restore procedure.

A factory reset, restores the software of an computer/laptop to its original system state by erasing all of the information stored on that device, in an attempt to restore it to its original manufacturer settings.

However, doing so will erase all of the data, settings, applications and so on, that were previously on that computer.

This is often done, to fix a software issue, or just to restore the device to its original settings. That's all.

A clean boot, will not erase anything. !!!

A clean boot is performed to make Windows start up, by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.

This helps you, to eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update.
