Can not play offline anymore.

How do you get to offline mode when you select play offline and steam prompts game not ready for offline?

I have had this game and my pc since 2009 and play a lot but I did not have internet on this pc and it was easy to just play in offline as a pop up came on after start up to switch to offline mode. I just moved and have only one pc now and got internet on my gaming pc (for limited use) and now it says - this game is not

ready for offline play when i try to switch to offline. From what i can gather on steam, I am supposed to get some updates. My steam is updated. So,does this mean I need the actual game patches and updates? I do have not any of them, or any dlc at this time. I like playing just fine without any of the patches and my couple of mods i have now. I was hoping someone had same issue since I didn't see an immediate solution on steam. They don't respond to chat questions on their support link.

Oh, and I did see that possibly registering the game with steam might work? I neither like that option, nor do I still have the product key with me.

Not sure I understand everything but, just quit Steam and relaunch it after disconnecting from the Internet should solve your problem.

I tried that and that is when I get the prompt "your game is not ready for offline play" prompt in steam. According to the steam website I am supposed to "update my game" but there is no explanation of what that means, and that should resolve the problem.

what game version are you running ?? you can check game version by going to the folder where the game is installed and checking tesv.exe file it should tell you the game's version. latest version is 1.9.32 if yours doesn't match to this number then that might be your issue with this game is not ready for offline play

Actually this is the problem i am having and their solution.

Using Offline Mode on a PC.

Please follow the instructions below to configure Offline Mode on your PC:

  1. Start Steam online - make sure the Remember my password box on the login window is checked
  2. Verify that all game files are completely updated - you can see the update status for a game under the Library section (when the game shows as 100% - Ready it is ready to be played in Offline Mode)
  3. Launch the game you would like to play offline to verify that there are no further updates to download - shut down the game and return to Steam once you have confirmed that the game can be played
  4. Go to Steam > Settings to ensure the Don't save account credentials on this computer option is not selected
  5. From the main Steam window, go to the Steam menu and select Go Offline
  6. Click Restart in Offline Mode to restart Steam in Offline Mode

I just did some checking and apparently it takes them a week to respond to support requests via email. In the meantime, I haven't ever used steam and am not sure what bullet 3 means. What updates? If I have to add the game to the library from what I can tell that requires the product key which I don't have here with me.

So, I guess the question is has one else who doesn't want to use steam had this issue?

So, it is referring to the actual game version. i have the original out of the box I bought the month it came out and have not downloaded any patches or anything but a cupla mods. I don't want to mess with all that, I don't like the sound of what the patches do, don't really want the dlc, don't want to be required to use an internet streaming service for a single player game I bought in a box to play offline. Now I can't even play when I disconnect the internet.

Well, you know what you must do then: update the game or play on-line.

Well I guess I will look again and give it some thought. I haven't had internet on this pc until yesterday. I am not real techno savy so I hope that it really is as easy they say 'for the causul user'.

Oddly enough I haven't had any insurmountable problems playing the original version since I can use the console to 'fix' certain things and I haven't had any problems with crashing. I do get tired of having to make sure I loot every enemy that equips weapons and shields to put them back into their inventory...

okay this is what I am concerned about. I have a lot of characters with 100+ hours I still play and many more with less, in fact I am playing one now I enjoy a lot that is just 20 or so in and on the MQ.

warning on uesp

Please note that having a designated patch installed will not guarantee that the issue it was supposed to fix will be fixed upon entering game. In some cases after a patch has been installed players have noted that their previous save files have become unplayable, glitchy and other issues. As such it may be necessary to start a new game file to have all issues resolved.

if i can't play any of my old saves I will be very, very, very disappointed, like quitting all beth games forever pissed.

Q.. If old files are messed up, can you start a new file/character to activate the changes and THEN the old files are fixed?

Try to launch the game through STEAM while online, if you go until the main menu, then exit the game.

Go to Steam -> Settings, and make sure "don't save computer credentials" is NOT checked.

Most games requires to launch the game at least once in ONLINE mode.

Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

Steam offline mode credentials may expire after some time based on a couple variables. If this happens, you can reconnect at an internet café or friend's house to refresh these credentials.

If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you.

I assume you have your Skyrim code with you. You bought the game, didn't you ???

Also you have Internet right now, so that's a good thing. I am happy of you, so why you don't use it ???

So, just backup your save files, and install the game as every normal people would do.

Skyrim needs STEAM for the first time installation and game update procedure. You can't overcome that, sorry man. !!!

And if a say update procedure, i mean to the latest available 1.9 patch.

No one forces you, to download the DLC's and the Unofficial patches if you don't wanna to.
