Why so much love for this dragon? From what I can gather he used to be a murdering tyrant, second to Alduin. Is it because he comes across as cute and cuddly, a bit like a big Yoda? I mean, would you be so willing to be so nice if he looked like http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lyooo2D0Bh1r5lrgao1_500.jpg? In my case my character will end up saving him, not because he thinks he's cute, but because he needs him and the Greybeards for his future plans.

Whenever I see the controversy about Paarthurnax, I am reminded of the background of St. Paul: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_the_Apostle

The underlying question is: "Are there some crimes sooooo incredibly heinous that there is absolutely no hope or allowance for redemption or reformation? Even after thousands of years of Good Deeds and atonement? Pointedly, without the defection of Paarthurnax from Alduin's leadership, humanity would NEVER have been able to end the rule of dragons. Where would humanity be had the Blades had their way and had Paarthurnax executed for his crimes before he helped humanity? Would that truly be Justice? How can they deny the Good that he did and focus on ONLY the Bad? Or is it simply ingrained on their psyches that ALL dragons are inherently Evil and therefore need to be eradicated? "The ONLY Good dragon is a dead dragon!" That sounds familiar somehow.

the only reason why I like Paarthunax is simply because he's one of the only two dragon's that don't spit fire or frost at you on sight and he also taught me Fire-Breath as well as granting me a 25% damage boost to that fire breath, he's a powerful ally that can take out legions of enemies while delphine could easily be overwhelmed by large numbers. who would you rather have covering your back. An ancient wise and powerful dragon or a bloody menopausal woman filled with hate for the wrong people who's in her fifties??

Himmler surrendered to the Allies without a fight as well. And what if he offered to do something good as recompense for murdering millions of innocent people? Anyone in favour of not hanging him?

All I really care about, is that he gives me 25% more on fire breath

The scale isn't even comparable. Himmler as you describe the scenario seems to be doing it along the lines of "If you promise not to kill me, I'll do Good Deeds!" Plus the timing. Had Himmler defected in say, 1941, assisted in making it possible to assassinate Hitler, then joined a monastery that specialized in doing charity work for the poor for about 20-30 years, then, yeah, I could see forgiving him. Furthermore, Paarthurnax's defection was the ONLY thing that made it possible to end the Dragon War in a human victory. So to balance the comparison, Himmler's assistance would have to be THE deciding factor to achieve an Allied victory in WW2.

I don't think any soldier on any Allied front with enough sense would believe Himmler if he said, "I promise I'll be a good man from now on if you let me go." If I recall from the history books, Himmler tried to strike a deal with Eisenhower, but Eisenhower wanted nothing to do with Himmler.

As said already, if Himmler defected earlier, was key to bringing a quick, speedy end to the war in favor of the Allies and spend the rest of his live donating to charity, building orphanages, caring for the poor and homeless, then yeah, we could probably forgive him. In the case of Paarthunax, that's basically what he did. He defected, assisted Man in ending the dragon war quickly in their favor and spent countless generations meditating and teaching the Greybeards.

@ Arise- If Himmler did what Captainpatch and I outlined, then offered to assist in ridding the world of another great evil, then why not? This is, of course, assuming he would be still alive and functional enough to do anything.

Spoiler
Yes, you have to go confront Paarth first, then return to the Blades and tell 'em to stuff it.

For my part, after learning what I need from Alduins wall (and grabbing Dragonbane and the armor while I'm there), I never return.

Because Lawful Good =/= blind zealotry.

Hell, Paarthy isn't even the worst of the lot. Ysgramor and Tiber Septim committed more than their fair share of atrocities, and they're venerated by tons of people. With the exception of Shalidor, most Nordic heroes are mass-murderers and power-hungry conquerors.

This is a VERY pertinent point. Pretty much any empire-builder that goes a-conquering in order to expand his borders is essentially a mass murderer. That is, thousands/hundreds of thousands of people that would not have died violent deaths -- or died of disease and starvation because of the side-effects of war -- end up dead because of the empire-builder's ambition.

I have to say we al have our opinion, it's just we need to look at the facts, without. Parthunac, the people of Skyrim would have never got rid of Alduin. That should redeem him, and anyone who thinks other wise is either a Milkdrinker, or world for the Aldmeri Dominion

you can resurrect him by targeting him with console and typing, well, 'resurrect'. Probably the next time you see Delphine you could tell her you killed him because the game mechanics won't recognize what you did with the console.

if not, then kill him, fast travel to her, complete the quest, then fast travel back to parth and resurrect him

i think you can also use respawn command and his base id, but i don't ever use that and am not sure how it works. i use resurrect a lot now that i found it, on horses and followers.

ha it sounds like something from a Zelda game...I'm positive that this rumor won't work but I'd be happy if someone proved me wrong.
