Yes this has been known for a long time. They are functionally stupid and there is no valid argument for their usage in combat. For a multitude of reasons.

I don't like em and they irritate the [censored] out of me half the time because how illogical they are, but in video games their existence is all but set in stone. To me it would be like making a sword have a blade as the hilt and a stick for the blade. Then it is supposed to slice stuff without harming the user. Just illogical. Then again video games and gamers aren't known for their sense or logic.
