My short review

Post » Thu Mar 12, 2015 6:01 am

Hello everybody,

this is my short review for the evil within, Iam adding it here because steam won't let me put up my own review through the steam...don't know why....

Although Iam not a fan of resident evil games, I only played the first one and never really liked it but I was quite excited when the evil within game was announced, mainly because it ran on the wonderful id tech 5 engine and had this wonderful and detailed gore technics and gibbing which Iam a massive fan of ever since the first soldier of fortune. So after a few months of waiting for the game, some delays which had to happen, eventually the game came out late 2014 but I was unable to play the game due to poor optimization and mainly due to the pc port being a piece of turd...But after a few months in march 2015 I decided to finally play the game without those atrocious black bars and with the fov I wanted via the extremely handy flawless widecsreen tool. The game still has a few issues, like CTD or freezes but the game with highest possible AA and graphical settings on 1080p it never dipped below 60 fps, it fluctuated between 60 and 144 fps which is a perfect for a 3rd person action survival game.
Now that we have the technicalities out of the way I can finally talk about this game that will probably stay very dear to my heart, not because it sometimes was quite scary and unpredictable but because the attention to detail and the whole art side of the game and everything is just done with such care and passion. a detail like Sebastian hair flowing in the air when you turn around or the simples of details like his extremely high quality texture of his coat or jacket...The game is just full of these wonderful suprises and attention to detail. The music is excellent, the visuals are breathtaking, the gameplay is engaging and satisfying and the story is well done too. If I can be honest I wasn't expecting an almost 19 hour story but when I finished the game after those 19 hours I was extremely satisfied with it as a whole. The Evil Within is a piece of art, the breathtaking, almost realisic visuals, the excellent atmosphere of a horror game, It's just that this game can be considered as the best in it's genre and probably among the very best inbetween the great games that came out over the years.
10/10

Glad you enjoyed it, you sound like a very satisfied customer. I played it last month on the Xbox One and also really enjoyed it, I would certainly recommend the game to anyone who hasn't tried it yet. I think it's best played in a dark room with headphones on for maximum scare factor and I'm now looking forward to the first DLC for it on march 10.

I wonder how this game feels at a stable framerate. On the PS4 its horrible. Is there any way of getting my money back?

I played it on the Xbox One and had no problems, it ran like a dream. What sort of problems are you experiencing, stuttering and that sort of thing?

Frame rate drops constantly, there is always a feel of lag which ruins gunplay. I'm at chapter 6 and it svcks. I feel like I could be enjoying the game a lot more if it was optimized.

Hmm When I played the game I always had the framerate above 60, it never dipped below that,as I mentioned in the first part of the review it fluctuated between 60 - 144 depending on the scenario.

But honestly I tried to run the game with 30 fps and it felt really choppy, but it was mainly due to the fact Iam using a 144 hz monitor so I can feel the choppiness more than usual user.

Overall I would say the game is from a technical standpoint probably one of the best looking almost realistic looking games I have ever played on PC :)

I loved this game as well. I played on ps4 and after the update in December the performace is much better not great but better. But it never really hindered the experience for me. The gameplay and mechanics themselves you'll def. receive mixed reviews and opinions. I truly think this is a game for the old school gamer. This, and Weoldenstein were some of the best games of 2014 oddly enough both published by Bethesda as well as essentially being old school style games. I love it! Games are too easy these days but those 2 games in particular were quite challenging at times. Although after a few play through a and you learn the ropes you can really become a beast in evil within. I find myself experimenting with how to dispatch the Haunted. >:) but anyways evil within 9.5 out of 10 for me. Enjoyed every minute and chapter including 11 and 12 the change of pace is always welcomed also watching the city shift in chapter 11 was some nice eye candy.
