Mysterious, disappearing weapons

Post » Wed May 19, 2010 4:26 pm

Hm.. Now that I'm delving deeper into this game than I ever did when it was new, and of course playing on DOSBox v0.72 under WinXP SP2, I'm encountering some unfortunate byproducts. The most recent thing I've seen is that sometimes, esp. when I've lightened my load to minimal weaponry, I switch between some high-quality sword to a bow for sniping, and my sword doesn't appear in my inventory. Sometimes, I've managed to have a save that still retains the sword I can go back to, but not always.. DAMN! Thoughts? Is this common for D'fall, common for DOSBox, or common for certain hardware, or is it not that common?

Thanks,

Is the sword magic?

Nope.. undane, though of higer-quality material. It happened with an Orcish broadsword & with a Daedric (oh.. can't remember if it was a broadsword or a katana). Both items were actually purchased from an armourer and not dropped loot. Suxxors, 'cause this last time it's left me in a bad way with only an Adamantium long-bow, which is good for sniping, but difficult when you sneak around a corner to find yourself face 2 face with a mage that immediately paralyzes you, then pummels you with his sword.. My level 11 Breton Rogue seems to be flummoxed.

Maybe you put them into your wagon via the wagon bug. There is a bug that allows you to access you wagon inside dungeons, but after you click on the other inventory categories, you lose access to your wagon. Click on the wagon tab then exit either the the "Sell" or "Identify" services to activate the bug.

So, for example, the bug was working to allow you access to your wagon. You opened your inventory and took off the sword (equip), that went into your wagon. Then you clicked on the weapons tab to equip the bow. Doing that removed access to your wagon. Now the sword is trapped in the wagon until you leave the dungeon and regain access to your wagon.

You might be able to access the wagon in the middle of the dungeon if you can cast Identify, but I haven't tested this.

There will be a better explanation of this bug on either tesguides.com/tes2 or uesp.net.

Curious and compelling hypothesis which I will CONFIRM later, but I strongly suspect it's not the case for me on these occasions. It did occur in dungeons, however, I directly equipped the bow while the swords were still equipped, so they never went into my inventory at all. I am thinking they didn't go into my wagon, 'cause I've definitely been to an armourer since the -first- time it occurred, and it wasn't in my wagon when I sold all my loot. I haven't checked my wagon/tried to sell to a vendor since this second occurrence..

Thanks for the heads-up about that particular bug, though. I may try to exploit it if I can manage to control the situation, 'cause I spent a long, LOOOONG time in the Wayrest palace dungeons passing up uber loot 'cause I was maxed out on encumbrance.. *D'OH!*

Sometimes, if you equip an item directly from your wagon, that is where it will go if you unequip it. I'd wager if you look in your cart you'll find your lost weaponry. So it's best to always 'remove' stuff from your wagon to your person, and then equip them.

I'll keep that in mind, but I'm referring to only weapons I've got handy on my ePerson at all times. I equip the bow from my inventory (not wagon) and the sword vaporizes..
