Creation Kit Broken by Update?!

Post » Fri Mar 13, 2015 9:43 am

Hi there,

Launched CK as usual today and it self updated but now ill not launch.

Launching from Steam does nothing and reports no error.

Attempting to launch directly produces a dialogue with the following error message:

CreationKit.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point SteamUGC could not be located in the dynamic link library

C:\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\CreationKit.exe.

Is anyone else experiencing this error today?

Any idea how to fix it?

(n.b., on my system Skyrim itself has not yet updated but is scheduled for a few hours from now)

Just to answer my own question, it turns out that both Skyrim and CK have to be updated for CK to work. CK works fine once I forced Skyrim to also update.

Also, be aware that your SkyrimEditor.ini file will be overwritten, so if you mod with DLC you need to add the following lines back into that file:

[General]
bAllowMultipleMasterLoads=1
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
SResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Update.bsa, Dawnguard.bsa, Dragonborn.bsa, Hearthfires.bsa

Skyrim update also replaced all my scripts, so will have to reapply SKSE, etc.

I always set my INIs to read only so I am not worried about them. But I forgot that Steam force updates the EXE when you log on. Has anyone found a way to prevent steam from updating a given game even when logged on?

I have been able to "pause" some updates indefinitely (I have one that has been "paused" for a year now) but sometimes it works and sometimes it will not. I have not found what combination of steps successfully pauses the update like that.

huh....I wonder if I can set the EXEs to read only? Would that really work?
