Oblivion + cpu issue

Post » Sun Mar 22, 2015 10:31 am

I have just purchased Oblivion (steam version) and found that running

this game causes my cpu temperature to go up to about 70 to 74 c.

Skyrim (heavily modded and with maximum settings) runs about 5 to 8 degrees

cooler, as does any game I have using the unreal 3 engine (also max settings).

Battlefield 4 also runs cooler for me.

Is there any type of tweaking or mod that I can use to reduce cpu strain when

running Oblivion?

70-74C is still well below the Corei7 950's TJ MAX (~100C). Oblivion may be less efficient in terms of CPU processing and it stresses out the CPU cores because it doesn't spread out to load.

The 950 has a TDP of 130W so its going to run fairly hot at load, 70-74C is not unheard of.

What HSF are you using?

I have an Arctic freezer 7 pro with arctic silver 5 thermal paste. My cpu idle temp is between

41c and 45c, depending on ambient temperture. i'm going to try the Oblivion script optimization

mod to see if it helps.
