recommendation for similar videocard to asus 9600 gso 384mb?

I'm wondering if anyone can please recommend a videocard similar to the asus 9600 gso 384mb for a low cost around $50 or less? I currently have the asus videocard, but I think it may not be working anymore as I've had some issues with my PC booting up and it has give me a bsod video_tdr_failure error. So I may get a new videocard to replace my current one.

The asus has worked fine for running skyrim at I think medium settings or maybe a little higher, I forgot as I haven't played in a while and I don't know if I can boot my PC right now to check what settings it was at.

My PC specs are: Intel Core 2 Duo e8400 3 ghz,Gigabyte EP35-DS3P Rev. 2.0, ASUS 9600 GSO 348 mb, 4 GB Ram, Echo Audiofire 4, Seagate 120gb, BenQ 1620 DVD Burner, Antec PSU 550W, Win 8.1 Pro, Samsung 20" widescreen LCD

Thanks for any help

A Video_TDR_Failure, can be a graphics driver issue. Try booting into Safe Mode, if a normal boot doesn't work. Download the nVidia graphics driver (or use a thumb drive to transfer the driver download from a different PC). Make sure you don't use Microsoft-branded driver (via Windows Update). Use drivers from nVidia's website or the manufacturer of the graphics card (i.e. Asus). Although Asus's drivers may be outdated.

To answer your original question, a fairly close replacement (under 50USD) would be nVidia GT 630 2GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121780

edit: Note: There many more options available at 60-75USD price range, if you can save up that much.

First off, yes the GT 630 is on the same range as the 9800 GSO.

However, this particular 2GB GT630 version should be a Kepler one.

Specs looking not very promising. Even if it's newer as the 9800GSO, the specs are even worse as your 9800GSO.

It has a very low Texture Fill Rate and Memory Bandwidth as well.

9800 GSO -> TFR: 26.4 - MB: 36.4 (192 bit)

GT 630 -> TFR: 14.4 - MB: 14.4 (64 bit)

I thing on the same settings (mid-high), you will be forced to lower your resolution a bit.

-------

Well, you are not going to get a "fine" graphics card for under $50.

An okay graphics card where you can play most of the modern games at mid settings would be around $100.

However, I would consider this one, almost in your price range:

http://www.amazon.com/XFX-Radeon-HD6670-PCI-Express-HD667XZHF3/dp/B004Z5GRW6/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1426971866&sr=8-5&keywords=HD+6570+1GB+DDR3

--------

As for the error, well it could be hardware related but software related as well.

So as Níeh?ggr said above, try to uninstall anything related to Nvidia from your Control Panel.

This as well, if you have problems to boot into Windows. [ Try booting into Safe Mode, if a normal boot doesn't work. ]

Also run Ccleaner after that. Go to the Registry panel o the left, and press: [ Scan for Issues ] LINK: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner

What's your Operating system, and is it 32 bit or 64 bit ???
