Why the component always needs two nif?

It's a question that confuss me for a long time.Why we always need two meshes for the same component ?the _0 and the _1.And to me ,there is no significant difference....so why we always need two?

As I understand it, the _0 is the 'light weight' version and the _1 is the 'heavy weight' version.

If you go to the character gen, you can make your character lighter or heavier, and it alters their physical appearance; from what I've read, the _0 should be the smallest version, and the _1 the biggest version, and then the game somehow works it out between them. I'm not an authority, though, just going on what I've read.
