Description:
Remember back in the day when Bethesda did interviews with modders? This is basically a continuation of that, only instead of a written format, we're going a more podcast-oriented route with interviews conducted over a voice-chat server and released on YouTube with various mods created by the author being shown in the background. If you've ever wanted to hear your favorite modders answer your questions in a podcast setting, this is your chance!
Now I know what some of you must be thinking, why now? Why do modder interviews now, and why is it important to do so? Given the relative success of https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTiULQ_bcPRu_jMTZ86WO7A, I thought it was time we started to branch out of our rigid episode format with a new show, and what better way to branch out than doing interviews with the people that make the stuff we feature all the time? Now, for why it's important, I would say interviews can make a voice in the community heard, and be the platform for new ideas and community efforts going forward into the future, as well as be a positive reinforcement for being a part of such a great community!
Goal:
The goal of Morrowind Modding Interviews is not only to interview a wide number of modders out there and show off mods you may not have seen before, but also to give new modders a voice in their community and help shape the future of Morrowind as we know it with new ideas. Not to mention build up momentum and excitement for modding again! Modding is an amazing and creative activity, and we should revel in our accomplishments and be proud of where modders can take us with their creations!
How it Works:
A week before the interviews are to be recorded, we'll post the names of the modders who've agreed to an interview and give everyone time to submit questions they'd like a particular modder to be asked during the interview. We'll take as many questions as we can, but make sure they're appropriate!
As soon as all questions are submitted, we'll forward the list of approved interview questions to the modders involved, so they'll have time to prepare their talking points before the interview is recorded.
On the date and time set by each modder, we'll invite them to a private TeamSpeak server (which has good conversation recording software built in) and begin the interview. With any luck, things will go smoothly and an episode will be released on YouTube a week later with included background footage of the author's mods.
We will naturally be taking suggestions for modders to interview, so if there's someone you want to see covered in a future interview, let us know!
Morrowind Modding Podcasts
Description:
Morrowind Modding Podcasts aims to introduce a new kind of modding discussion, one never before seen in any modding community, featuring a casual yet intellectual series of podcasts based around a panel of five modders and a particular set of topics covered in each episode. Each podcast will be hosted by Darkelfguy (myself) and feature four modders from around the community, and we're aiming to get a diverse group for each episode, with new modders, popular modders, province modders, and modders from all walks of life contributing to a discussion on the state of modding, their creative practices, and much more in every podcast!
The overall idea is that each podcast will be 60~90 minutes in length (though we will likely go over that limit), with each topic allotted 20-30 minuted of discussion time (a total of three topics per podcast), so each modder should have plenty of time to talk about each subject and offer counterpoints of discussion to responses given by others.
Now it should be mentioned that each podcast group will be organized by geography. Due to timezones and varying schedules, it would be impossible to gather five people from around the entire planet. Therefore, we will have two main podcast groups, one for Europe and one for the Americas (North and South America). So everyone (except Darkelfguy) will be from the same general set of timezones for each podcast, making scheduling a lot easier. If there's enough modders to support it, we can also set up a third group for Australia and New Zealand.
Each podcast will be released once a month on YouTube with video coverage of each modder's works in the background, and also on Podbean (Audio Download only).
Podcast Format:
Subjects for each episode will vary, so no two episodes will sound exactly alike. The overall subject format will go something like this:
- Subject Involving Modder Experiences
- Subject Involving Current Events in the Community
- Subject Involving a Community-Submitted Topic
The modder experiences subject includes such topics as dealing with feedback and constructive criticism, how modders come up with ideas and what motivates them, the importance of documentation and planning in mod development, and other topics of a similar nature. Basically this subject looks at what it's like to make mods, the motivation for mod making, and what sort of practices people use in making mods.
Current events is pretty self-explanatory, and some examples could be things that are going on in the community right now (like the Province Mod Union, the recent move by Steam to monetize modding, and work on OpenMW). Even after nearly 13 years, Morrowind is blessed with an incredibly active community, and of course the wider modding world has some impact on us as well, so there's always something new to talk about each month.
The community-submitted topic for the podcast is where community involvement really comes in. Before each episode, people will have the opportunity to post suggestions for a topic to cover, and we'll take one of these suggestions at random for each episode, thus keeping an avenue of continuously fresh topics available and allowing everyone to participate in the discussion!
Overall, each podcast will have a format like this:
1. Introduction - Each modder will introduce themselves and mention one or two mods or projects that they've worked on. (Time Allotted: 5 minutes)
2. First Subject - A topic involving modder experiences (Time Allotted: 20-30 minutes)
3. Second Subject - A topic involving current events in the community (Time Allotted: 20-30 minutes)
4. Third Subject - A community submitted topic (Time Allotted: 20-30 minutes)
5. Closing Segment - Personal Modder Questions (Time Allotted: 15~ Minutes)
In the final segment, we'll ask each modder involved a personal question about their mods and modding experiences, ideally submitted by the community ahead of time, and this segment will be used to have a friendly conclusion to each episode with a discussion and appreciation of all the hard work modders have done for the community.
Community Participation:
Right now we need modders to sign up for each podcast group! Everyone is welcome to join in, no matter what your modding experience, whether you've released a house mod or a giant landmass mod, you're welcome to take part in these creative discussions on modding!
Even if you don't want to sign up for a podcast, you can still contribute by submitting topics to cover in each episode and questions to ask individual modders!
We have an amazing community here in the Morrowind Modding Community, now let's show that to the world by doing something no other community has done before with a regular modding podcast series! All hail Resdayn!
