I Uninstalled GFWL and not FO3 will not start up

Post » Wed Apr 01, 2015 9:52 pm

Hi guys,

I was clearing items from my installed list using Revo Uninstaller. I mention Revo because it is an uninstall program that finds and allows you to remove registry keys and extra folders associated with a program. I saw GFWL and thought "I don't need that anymore." I removed it and yesterday decided to play FO3. It will not start up.

I am using W7 64b, w AMD Radeon HD6650M, 8 Gb ram, I5 processor. It has run on this computer before. Please let me know what I can do to run the game again. Or do I just have rto reinstall FO3?

I found this: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5549%C2%A0

Still crashing to desktop. I think I'll just reinstall the game from the disc.

If it's the GOTY edition, that won't work. The GFWL client that comes with it is outdated, you'll need to get a new version from Microsoft. And the link that DevenTarn provided won't do you any good. That's for the 360 and only deals with the GFWL marketplace, which no longer exists. This is the one you want:

I do not have the GOTY edition. All separate discs purchased as they came out back in the day.

The link you provided is still for a Marketplace program. I am looking for plain old GFWL on the Microsoft site.

The page doesn't say Marketplace but the install program says Marketplace when it is installing and after installing it FO3 still doesn't load.

Never mind. It was one of the mods. I'll figure out what's going on there. But with no mods activated the game loads. Thanks for all the help.

Thats odd Nicho ... your post was not showing up until just now for me ... of which I see you do have the correct site linked.

I found it after putting this in my search engine "microsoft games for windows - live redistributable " which is how its listed in my control panel for programs.

@ OP Give that link a try ... not the one listed by DevenTarn.

Here it is again incase Nicho aint showing up for you http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=5549

Ahhh wait ... I see you to had the correct link. And yes it always comes with the market place ... but as you will see , it is a separate program you can uninstall.

And with you disabling your mods , therefore it running with vanilla. First you can try to throw out your .INI files found with your saves ... then remake them from the launcher. Maybe even get rid of the save path from /mygames ... but move your saves folder first ... then put the saves back inside the new folder.

Or it maybe your just stuck re-installing your mods ... whats the mod manager your using? (You don't need to re-download them , just reinstall them ... possibly your install info just doesn't like the updated version of the .dll the latest GFWL is installing.

Hmmm , not sure ... but look for a way to re-assert the mod manager to your Fo3 install directory.

Using Nexus Mod Manager. I was trying to load mods that needed Mothership Zeta to work. But I don't have that one. It's the only DLC I didn't buy. Now I wisgh I had. I want to find it now and not the Steam version either, lol. Any leads are appreciated.

If you do not want the Steam version of the game than you are likely going to have to get the GOTY version of the game.
