Your work computer

Plenty of talk around here about personal set ups, but what is your workstation like? I have a four monitor setup with a Lenovo PC. Two off the motherboard, and two off a low end AMD card. Two 1080ps and two 1900x1600s. Its great for running 8 mainframe screens, outlook, toad (a SQL inquiry tool), excel, etc so I can access a huge amount of information at the same time.

My computer at work is a cheap one that is mainly used for internet and text based documents. I'm on it probably 1-2 hours per day.

An Alienware gaming laptop that is still capable of playing Skyrim on full with moderate mods, wowing people with its light show and attracting opprobrium from those who think I should shove a bunch of OEM electronics in a large paperback or maybe an old 2000AD annual (that dates me) and tells others I'm the kind of girl that just doesn't care. I got a better desktop since then at home, and the lappy small and light enough to fit in my big hand bag for holidays and weekends should I feel the need (watching films in the bedroom, (calm down(mostly), I have legal internet TV). Sits on my desk at work along with all the Piles of Procrastination™.

A Vax workstation (model 4000/60, I think), though I've managed to lose my VMS licence keys somewhere.

Okay, more seriously (though the Vax is lurking under my desk), a fairly bog-standard Intel-based server: I got fed up with buying expensive ECC memory and SCSI drives so the latest incarnation is just a cheapo motherboard with a Core 2 processor and 10 SATA drives mostly arranged in a RAID-5-esque array managed by ZFS (reliable, but not very fast). It runs FreeBSD version, erm current-ish, and faffs about doing Postfix, imap, Apache, CUPS and a whole load of other dull but useful stuff. The thing I interact with is whatever is nearby and on the same network.

Pretty run-of-the-mill Dell Core i7 workstation with 16GB RAM and 3 x 24" monitors.

All computers at work are from Dell, with Dell monitors.

The computer I got have an Intel i5 CPU, is using the integrated graphics, 8GB RAM and running Windows 7. And a 22" 1680x1200 Dell monitor with that.

A few guys have multiple monitors, but I really don't feel the need for it.

Just a regular old business model, horribly slow and outdated.

That's just because you haven't become addicted accustomed to it. :spotted owl: Once you do, there's no going back.

Well, I work at a historical research station at a museum. I don't have a work pc at home, but at work we just got upgraded to some fancy dell's. Three screens and a 3D scanner. That's pretty much it, and a camera.

I couldn't go back to 3, let alone 1, at least for the job I do now.
