Precision Timing

Sometimes, things happen in the game that have almost unbelievable timing that creates an interesting event. Here's my latest in that vein.

Yep, took my newest character to Solitude to buy her first horse. I know some of you have "Convenient Horses" and will know exactly what I'm talking about, but for the rest let me explain something before I go on. You can buy a horse at the stables, just as you previously did, but now you have a couple of new options You have dialogue concerning a whistle, and that is interesting, and you have two options to buy horns. One horn is a Nordic horn, and one is an Imperial horn. These are used to summon your horse when you've been separated.

Talking to the stableman, I said "I want to buy a horse." He in turn asked me how much I was offering, and I replied "1000 gold", and he said "Sopunds fair, it's the one with the saddle."

Then I said "I'd like to buy a horn." "No problem", he replied, "Which horn do you want?" Well I'd never had the Imperial horn, so I said I'd take the Imperial horn.

He replied "Fine. This is for you..."

BOOOM!!!

I was hit by a bolt of lightning, and completely surrounded by the electrical tendrils that stay behind to make sure your hair is properly aligned with the stars. It took a few seconds for me to comprehend what had just happened, but I soon realized that a dragon had snuck up on me while I was buying the horse, and he had hit me with lightning breath at a ridiculously well-timed moment.

I'm never gonna buy another damned Imperial horn, I'll tell you that for sure!

So, any good stories of timing in your world?

The stuff about buying horns from the stables to recall your horse is part of the mod Convenient Horses - so those without that mod just have to trust us. I don't think the thread is about mods though, but rather conveniently (or inconveniently) perfect coincidental timing of things that give you a bit of a 'wow' moment. :twirl:

Here's one: Buffy was traveling with her flame thrall and encountered a pair of Vigilants fighing some wisps - and poorly at that. Well, Buffy's permaflameatronach saved the day with her fireballs. The Vigilants then gave Buffy their normal spiel on the evils of Daedra - - right after one just saved their Stendarrian butts! :D

Just last night. New character, a weak mage. I use the "Live Another Life" mod, so was starting as "left for dead," on the road east of Riften. No possessions, just the starting Altmer spells.

It went all right for a while. Attacked by a single bandit, then a handful of wolves.

Came upon that broken tower near the road, inhabited by two bandits. "No problem," think I.

The battle starts. Both bandits are archers. So I run for cover behind the tower, where I'm promptly attacked by three wolves. Then a deer runs by, chased by two more wolves, who instantly decide that I'm tastier than venison. Five wolves, two archers, no weapons, no potions. Around the tower we go, wolves nipping, archers shooting arrows and taunts, a merry chase. My mage survived, but just barely, thanks to a lot of rock-hopping, ducking, and running in terror. :)

Sounds like your new Character is related to Benny Hill. I bet the music also matched the theme. :D

My Bosmer, Orandir is a hapless archer who barely knows which end of a knife to hold. He's walking east from Ivarstead with Lydia, and everyone knows there are bears in those hills, so they're on the lookout. I'm aware we're passing a cave (it's brightly passing by on my compass) and Lydia runs ahead and goes "Oh look!" Orandir assumes she's pointing out the cave, but when he turns to look at her, there is literally a bear in his face, trying to tear it off! He hastily whips out his bow and back pedals to get a shot at the bear, and when it's finally dead I imagine his reaction is "Dammit, Lydia, 'Oh look!?' Really!? How about 'Oh sh-t there's a bear behind you!'? Sweet Divines, we need to work on our communication."
