Can i run skyrim in 4K

Post » Mon Apr 06, 2015 4:00 am

Over the last couple of month's i have spent a lot of money getting a new computer and hdtv for the next generation of games that will be coming out over the next few years and beyond and i want to know what resolution i can get out of it on skyrim.

computer specs

Processor - (CPU) Intel? Core?i7 Eight Core Processor Extreme i7-5960X (3.0GHz) 20MB Cache
Motherboard - Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5: ATX, LG2011, USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs, XFIRE/SLI
Memory - (RAM) 16GB CRUCIAL DDR4 2133MHz (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card - 4GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 970 - 1 DVI, 1 mHDMI, 3 mDP - 3D Vision Ready
I don't have a monitor instead i have a 55" 4k ultra hdtv.
At the moment i'm running skyrim at 1920x1080 is this the best i can hope for or could i get 3840x2160 i did try for max setting but the screen went all green and weird. Also i am using the skyrim high def 2k textures from the nexus and realvision enb i have also have turned of antialiasing and anisotropic filtering in the skyrim launcher and have my graphics card doing that.
At the moment the game looks utterly jaw dropping but i'm starting to get a little out of my depth with the resolution and i would like to know the limits of my system.
Thanks

Actually you should get pretty nice frame-rates on 4K with the GTX 970.

See below:

http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-980-and-GTX-970-GM204-Review-Power-and-Efficiency/Skyrim-S

However with Realvision on 4K, i thing you will have a considerable frame-rate penalty. (Realvision is very GPU intensive)

The processor they are using, should be almost equal to yours.

As for the GPU, the GTX 970 should be between a GTX 780Ti and GTX 780.

Well, that's a pain in the a**.

Have you tried DP instead of HDMI ???

Also you wanna try at 4K "windowed mode"

It could be Nvidia driver related as well, or worse you may want a different GPU BIOS.

However, just try with DP, and the windowed mode and see what happens. !!!

HDMI 1.4 is limited (not enough bandwidth) to 4K resolution at 30Hz, if you are forcing a higher refresh rate it will have handshake/communication issues (green screen).

You'll need a HDMI 2.0 cable (aka UHD HDMI cable) to get 60Hz at 4K.

***

The HDTV doesn't support HDMI 2.0, so it really doesn't matter. You'll be limited to 30Hz at 4K via HDMI.

If the resolution is set correctly 3840x2160p30 then it might be a bad cable, which isn't uncommon.

Amazon Basic cables are cheap and IMO reliable.
