Enabling an NPC in an animation

Just asking to see if this might work before I put in all the trouble of making the animations (and meshes). What I want to do is have an activator as a stand in for an unconscious / un-activated NPC, the activator will be setup so that it matches the NPC in pose and once activated perform a short animation and get disabled via script only for the real NPC to become enabled in it's place while playing a special idle that will see the NPC then wake up and come to life.

If I rig this up would the NPC be in the idle before I enable it or would I need to do a bit of scripting when the cell loads swapping out enabled and disabled states?
