  • Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is coming soon on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
  • The game takes place in 2029, two years after the events of Human Revolutionand the infamous 'Aug Incident' in Panchaea, which ended the golden era of human augmentation. These terrible events scarred the world and caused augmented people to be segregated and deemed as outcasts.

I found this article a few days ago and as an old Deus Ex fan I find it a very interesting read. It's about what Deus Ex could have been if Ion Storm didn't sink. The 3rd installment in the series was in pre-production @ Ion Storm using the Invisible War engine and the project was abandoned not once, but twice. In the brainstorming process there were more concurrent storylines: Here is the full article, enjoy! http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-11-16-ion-storms-lost-deus-ex-sequels

What can I say, besides damn you Warren Spector for Invisible War and for leaving (but a thank you for System Shock and Deus Ex). All in all DE: Human Revolution turned out better than I expected. Anyways much better than Thief.

You just reminded me that I bought Human Revolutions when it went on sale on Steam and I've never played it yet. I should probably do that soon. The original Deus Ex is one of my all-time favorite games.

I'll be looking forward with great interest to see how DE#4 turns out.

An article on Siliconera says that Square will show off some Deus Ex: Mankind divided at http://www.deusix.com/ website tomorrow.

I rather enjoyed HR, so I'm kinda looking forward for this one.

Thing is: Warren learned the mistake of trying to top the first one with IW and failed miserably. At least he learned and moved on to Mickey Mouse. Couldn't give him more reputation and respect. What came after IW is 98% graphics with the rest being copy/paste and cringe-worthy tryhard. Essentially the DX series is getting George Lucas'd. I have a theory on why there's no Half-Life 3. I don't think GabeN would ever sleep at night knowing he'd poop all over the best shooter of all time with something that just couldn't top it. Even more so because he's its own creation. Again, Warren Spector learned this 10 years ago. Won't ever blame him for trying, though. Classified.

Edit 1: As for DX 3 & 4, it feels like I'm already married with a beautiful woman I met 15 years ago (beautiful in all aspects) and an other one's trying to flirt with me: I'm not interested. What I'd be all over about, though, would be an Anna Navarre spin-off. Seriously, apart from being a woman, I always thought she was the most interesting character of all the originals. Her background would make for a killer game imo. [censored] Gunther, at least Anna had a heart...

Edit 2: I still cry over this:https://youtu.be/Vxi7JRJrod4

http://www.pcgamer.com/deus-ex-mankind-divided-details-leak/

-Takes place in 2029, 2 years after Human Revolution

-Listed as single-player, no mention of multiplayer

-Jensen is part of a covert, goverment-sponsored task force called Task Force 29, a new bracnh of Interpol, to combat a new breed of terrorism

-Jensen doesn't full trust Task Force 29, also feeds intel to another covert organization called the Juggernaut Collective

-In true Deus Ex fashion, you often receive conflicting missions, neither can be fully trusted

-Boss encounters are designed in a way to allow players to approach any way they want (stealth, full combat, etc)

-Eidos won't comment on which ending it considers canon but is trying to string together different parts of each ending for the overall background of Mankind Divided

-Story is in many ways a story of redemption for Jensen

-The story they're telling is building to events that take place in the original Deus Ex

-With Mankind Divided, they're exploring the original game's past; "Is the depiction of past events from the original Deus Ex true? Will we discover stuff we never knew?"

-Added a lot of diversity to the environments

-Females are also now part of the regular enemies in the game

-One of Jensen's missions takes him to Utulek Station in Prague, now a ghetto for augmented individuals

-It is nicknamed "Golem City", based on the real life Kowloon Walled City

-Shops line the streets, temporary housing units stacked on one another reaching upwards toward the sky; claustrophobic atmosphere

-Mission to track down a leader of an aug group, but police have captured the informant

-Can choose to butter up the informant's wife for clues or cause a scene with the police

-Alternatively Jensen can bypass this area of the game altogether and find the leader's hideout on his own

-Mentions Jensen engaging in tense conversation with the leader, resulting in a diplomatic solution or violence

-Transhumans (augs) referred to as "clanks" by police

-"You can go full combat or full stealth throughout any part of the game"

-Side quests meant to be more meaningful; ex. players can choose to make deals with criminal organizations and its mob boss might call in a favor later interrupting main missions

-Doesn't want fetch quests, the team sees the extra quests as a way to explore the main themes of the game more deeply

-Features twice as many augmentations as Human Revolution

-Aug examples:

  • Tesla: little darts pop out of Jensen's knuckles allowing him to tag enemies and take them out quietly
  • Silent Run: Allows Jensen to move quickly across any floor without making a sound (can combine with cloaking)
  • C.A.S.I.E.: Allows Jensen to anolyze the mental state of individuals, helping him to respond adequately in conversations
  • PEPS Gun: Non-lethal weapon that pops out of Jensen's bionic arm and fires a concussive blast allowing him to knock an enemy out, kill him or flee

-Augmentation features can be assigned on the d-pad for quick selection

-Augmentations consume a fixed amount of energy, when Jensen stops using them he regains a portion of it

-Can still refill his augs completely with bio cells, Eidos wants the recharge mechanic to encourage using augs more liberally

-New remote hack augmentation allows Jensen to activate shortcuts through areas to pass enemies

-No plan for Human Revolution saves to carry over, but Eidos is planning for a franchise now, want to expand further after HR's success

-No plans for a Deus Ex MMO

-Eidos noted fans who played stealthily enjoyed the game more so spent several years iterating on gunplay

-Mankind Divided's moment-to-moment action plays out like a series of set-piece moments, a 'remarkable feat' considering nothing is scripted
-Jensen can adjust his weapons at any point mid-battle, changing ammo type, firing pattern, scopes, etc

-Some enemies have external tech like exoskeletons and mechs to combat Jensen

-Variety of enemies have a diversity of weapons, augments, or other high-tech combat tools, some have high-jump abilities, etc

-Focused on making A.I. more aggressive, flanking, etc

-Certain elements of the environment now react to combat

This is good news. Human Revolution was one of the more enjoyable games from last generation (Mirror's Edge, Dishonored and Human Revolution are the 360/PS3 gen games I've played thru the most times), even if it didn't live up to the greatness of the first game.

But I hope this game will. What I want to see improved from HR the most are larger levels that offer more routes. Compared to the original Deus Ex, Human Revolution felt a bit claustrofobic. I mean, I loved the Liberty Island in Deus Ex, and how you could be on top of the statue and look all over the island and see the NPCs walking around far away. Human Revolution never got that level scale.

I also hope they will be given enough time and budget so they don't need to cut content for the release. Listening to the commentary in Human Revolution Director's Cut was at times rather depressing cause several times they said "here we wanted to do X and it looked great but because of time contraints we had to cut it out". The explorable city hubs were supposed to be larger and I would have loved to see that. I'm especially sad what with happened with Hengsha. I mean, the first time I played HR and got to that fancy Tai Young Medical lab, and looked down and saw this gorgeous futuristic green park thingy and I thought "I hope we get to go there", but it never happened, and then in a few years later in Director's Cut they say that it was actually the plan and they got the park level but couldn't fully finish it but had to cut it out. So depressing!

Because Deus Ex defined an era with its mesmerizing freedom and utter lack of ways to fail any mission. Seriously, you can't fail, but rather you approach each mission YOUR way and face the consequences which will mean wither + or - xps.

You can′t fail missions in the original Deus Ex? Surely we have played two very different games then, because in my game you most definitely could fail missions. Yes you still advance in the story, but the missions could still be failed in one way or another. Of course, some things were forced to keep you on the plot.
