Is there wiggle room to justify making Snow Elves playable?

Now I don't know about anyone else, but 2 things I really, really love are snow and elves. So naturally I've gravitated towards the Snow Elves of The Elder Scrolls universe. One of the few redeamable aspects of Dawnguard was the development of Snow Elf culture and history, and the revelation that there's at least one still living and not a creepy goblinoid monstrousity. He brings up the possibility that others escaped the fate of the "Betrayed". Do you suppose he was correct?

Is the chance high enough for them to make a comeback as a race prominant enough to be a player option? The Orcs don't have a whole province for their own but are still playable. Other than the issue of population, there's also their historic animostity with the Nords, their closest neighbours. Would they just instantly return to their genocidal ways as soon as peaceful Snow Elves made their presence known, or would they tolerate their Mer cousins as much as they do the other kinds of elves? But these are not hard 'no's to the possibility of there being more Snow Elves to rebuild their lost civilisation, or make a new one from the remnants of what was preserved.

So, what I'm asking is, is there room in your heart to bring the Snow Elves up to the ranks of the Altmer, Bosmer, Dunmer, and Orsimer and make them playable?

I wouldn't be adverse to the Falmer (pre-betrayal) to reemerge into Tamrielic prominence as a playable race.

As you've stated, they set down the Lore and culture for it, including giving themselves a method with which to build on in order to achieve that revival. The Paladin of Auri-El was very clear that there could quite possibly be many more Falmer in other enclaves that escaped the betrayal. But due to his seclusion it was impossible for him to know.

Entire series' of books, TV, and movies have been built on less, so why not bring the Falmer back into the fold? The only ones who would have a problem with it are the Nords and the Dwemer, and half of that problem sorted itself out quite a while back. I personally don't see an issue with expanding on the Paladin's suggestion/assumption and bringing them into Tamriel.

I'm inclined to believe that Paladin was indeed the last of his kind. There's no reason for the Snow Elves to hide anymore, if there are indeed survivors out there. One of the provinces would probably take them in.

Well, unless they don't want to trust any other races anymore, after what happened with the Dwemer.

Really? 10 playable races isn't enough? Many of the competitors offer only one...

Well, you know; because ever more player choice/option is bad...

Just for the record Snow Elves were nothing new with neither Skyrim nor Dawnguard, they were introduced in Bloodmoon. And with one exception, they've been extinct for thousands of years.

No. It's possible someone else survived in some other remote enclave, justifying one modded playable Snow Elf - or that the Betrayed will eventually rise again sometime far in the future. But that's not enough to make them an official playable race. As a people, they are extinct.

The problem with making Snow Elves playable is that they would be like Neanderthals from our world. We know that they existed in the past, but to our knowledge they're extinct. Even if Neanderthals survived in some hidden societies they couldn't exactly walk into downtown New York and be treated like everyone else. They'd stick out like a sore thumb. Same with the Falmer. Playable Falmer would need entirely different dialogue from most everyone in the game. It'd be very immersion breaking for some shopkeeper to give you a generic greeting like you're just some average customer instead of one of the last surviving members of a race thought to be long extinct.
