An idea for a Cult for Mephala

Hey guys, now this is just a possible idea for a cult of the daedric prince Mephala-my favourite daedric prince.

Now i know that the Morag tong, the morrowind assassins, already worship Mephala as their patron, but do they worship her for all of her themes? For example in the book, Vivec and Mephala it explains how Mephala is known in the west as the "demon of murder, six, and secrets. All of these themes contain subtle aspects and violent ones (assassination/genocide, courtship/orgy, tact/poetic truths); Mephala is understood paradoxically to contain and integrate these contradictory themes." I am no loremaster, but from what i've read the morag tong worship Mephala for her assassination themes, and not for any of the qualities relating to six.

I read somewhere about an interview with a spider cultist, (i have not played elder scrolls online) where the cultist explains the different roles within the cult of mephala, about the widow, deathweavers e.t.c., but i was wondering if these cultists understand mephala's sphere of influence, which is known to be inaccessible to mortals, and that as mentioned earlier integrates the contradictory themes of murder, six and secrets.

I was thinking maybe an idea for how someone joins the cult is that they are born to. As these people develop they begin to naturally use the secret arts of mephala, but they do not know this. They subconsciously understand how these arts of murder, six and secrets can be joined, but to others they cannot explain it, it would be explaining the very nature of themselves, however these people cannot be comprehended by others and they also do not comprehends their morals, as they develop.

When Mephala notices them as one of her blessed, she calls them to one of her cults, which are obscured throughout the lands. Under Mephala, they develop and learn to hide their nature to others, but they, unlike most others, understand mephalas sphere of influence and her motives and become part of her obscurity. They cannot explain her sphere truly to others, as it is similar to a normal human explaining their own existence.

Thats just my idea, there are probably other, better ones. But anyway let me know what you guys think and thanks for reading! :)

There already is a cult for him. It's called the Dark Brotherhood. She has them strung along thinking that he's some kind of "Night Mother" or somesuch. And she's laughing his head off at their gullibility.

My idea was not for there to be a cult that worships mephala for only one or two of her themes, as in secret murder, but for all of them, the secret and excessive ones and for how they are integrated, but they are basically a part of her.

Dark Brotherhood are blasphemous murderers who kill for money, and they worship "sithis" and although this deceit would probably fit in with mephalas sphere, i think she the webspinner would want more to her whispers. Killing out of hate, and love, not for money

(S)He wouldn't be manipulating the Dark Brotherhood just so they kill for money - as noted in "Inexplicable Patron: Mephala", (s)he 'does nothing without purpose, perceives all the Aurbis as an interconnected system of action and consequence, and employs herself spinning new threads to influence outcomes' ... the Dark Brotherhood murdering emperors, politicians and notable families and thus causing change and major outcomes would be her reasoning. The fact that they believe they do it for money is why it's so ... deceptively perfect??

The whole six-cult thing is more a Dibella / Sanguine thing really. She's called the demon of six and lies, but by all evidence in both the games and the written lore she seems to be more about manipulating people. The six part, as I understand it, goes hand in hand with learning to manipulate through deceit. six can be a powerful tool, after all.

Hmm... Yeah the whole orgy thing did seem a bit sanguiney in nature, but i always just thought it was a part of her unknowable nature. So based on what you wrote Mcaber, do you also believe that the night mother IS mephala?

I think it's likely Mephala. It's not confirmed either way, really.

But given her sphere, the fact that they originally were a broken off sect of the Morag Tong, the fact that Sithis isn't actually a sentient entity, and that she loves manipulating people for her own ends ... yeah, I'd say it's probably Mephala.

If this theory is true, even though they'll probably never reveal it, it would make me like the dark brotherhood a hell of a lot more! what they should do maybe in one of the future games is that with the dark brotherhood sanctuaries located all along tamriel, they should make out like a dot-to-dot that when connected makes out a web, some evidence, but not concrete that she is in fact the patron of the dark brotherhood.

I think the book of daedra needs to be changed or just disregarded, its misleading when regarding mephala and boethiah

Unfortunately, lore in TES is often deliberately misleading or biased, in order to imitate a real world with real cultures etc. You'll find a lot of the books in the series contradict themselves, and paint differing pictures depending on who wrote them in-universe. I think the Book of Daedra also calls Molag Bal the God of Schemes, which is very rarely hinted at outside of ESO. I personally prefer it that way, it lets us believe whatever parts we wish. I personally subscribe to the Mephala-is-the-Night-Mother theory, but others don't. Both sides have a good point

That's pretty much how ES Lore works. I like it.
