Just out of interest.....

Hi...

This game is, what, 3 years old now? And this forum is still really busy (thankfully! :) ). So I just wondered, are all you wonderful people playing their first game as I am, just that you bought it late in the day, or are you still playing it 3 years down the line? Or maybe as different characters? Or finished with it and just come here to help people. :)

And I've just thought, you have the two expansions as well. Talking of which, I was thinking of finishing Skyrim before getting the two expansions Dawnguard and Dragonborn, but maybe getting the Hearthfire one soon, when I have the sort of money I will need. What do you think? And at what kind of finances should I have before I even think of getting Hearthfire?

Thanks

D

Atm I'm just posting for the kicks, as I'm unable to play, but I've seen all the content from the game, and just continued to make new characters.

Cool thing about the Heartfire is that you don't have to be initially insanely rich. You can start small, and slowly build your home as you build your own character, come back after every couple of missions and improve a couple of things in and around your house. For example, with several characters my homes were often literally nothing but a single room-house with several chickens inside of the fence, a tiny garden, and a horse barn, for almost half of that character's play span.

Oh man the way this thread started I thought it was another remaster skyrim topic. thank god! I haven't been back in skyrim for a while because I'm giving other games my full atteintion and a game like skyrim demands your full attention. just go for hearthfire and build the house as you go through the game naturally because building the entire thing takes a while to finish especially if you hire a steward to furnish your house it takes forever. so just play the game like you would and build the house at your own pace.

I only play one character. And I only play her in one game at a time. I played Oblivion for about 4000 game hours (2007-2013) then, after Skyrim was reasonably patched up, the UESPwiki was fleshed out and a reasonable selection of mods were available, moved to Skyrim early in 2014 and have about 1600 game hours there now.

Sorry, can't help on the Hearthfire. My elf lives out of her saddlebags.

Just playing the vanilla game since Nov 2012 (a year late to the party). I've played something like six or seven characters and most of them reach level 40-ish. My current play through is closer to level 75 and still going. I've got all three DLCs but am on Xbox so no mods for me.

You've got some great gaming ahead of you since you've not yet played Dawnguard or Dragonborn. Enjoy!

I've got about 4500 hours in skyrim, and since I play DiD I've had over a hundred characters, though I don't know the exact number. I don't know how long that is in days and moths, but I'm sure it's been over 2 years. I've still never finished the main quest, not even once... and there's a lot of other things in Skyrim I haven't done as well.

Now I'm even more excited about what is in store for me - thanks!! :)

With regard to mods/patches, especially patches, I'm guessing mods are PC only - I'm playing on the xBox. With patches, are there any, and if so, how do I get 'em!? I should say I'm pretty new to the xBox aswell. I know, I know, where have I been?! Playing strategy games on the PC is where! :)

I bought Skyrim on day one and have been playing off and on since then. I've put about 2500 hours into the game and have created more characters than I can remember. I'm currently playing Fallout 3 but I'll be back in Skyrim soon!

For pretty much the same price as buying both DG and DB alone, you could buy the Skyrim Legendary Edition http://store.steampowered.com/sub/28187/

which includes Hearthfire. I'm not sure, but I believe Legendary integrates the main game + DLCs better than just tacking on the DLCs one at a time to the core game.

I bought Skyrim on 11/11/11 and played extensively for about a year, them mostly quit for a couple years and went back to playing Morrowind and Oblivion. I've been playing Skyrim again for a couple months with various no magic characters. Right now I have a Conan type build who is strictly no magic (although he occasionally uses a found potion, but rarely). And I have a heavy armor axe wielding Khajiit who rarely uses a small amount of magic. I also had a DiD character die earlier this week. All the characters I'm playing now are new. I have not revived any of my old characters from when I first played.

I've still got a couple of active characters in Skyrim, but I haven't played in months. I've been playing other games. Someday I'll get the urge to pick it back up again and continue my characters' stories.

I only know about PCs. And yes, 'mods' refers to PC only fan-made modifications. The latest patch has been out for well over a year now and I'm confident there will be no more official patches. Not sure how patches work on Xbox, but I'm sure someone who knows the Xbox system will be along to help. :icecream:

If you are signed in to Xbox live (only need the free version), the latest official patch will automatically download when you start the game.
