Beware of Microsoft phone scam!

Post » Wed Apr 15, 2015 7:40 pm

Earlier today, I received a call from a guy with a foreign accent who said his name was Jimmy. He claimed to call from Microsoft Support and that their server monitored malware in my computer so he needed remote access to fix the problem. He asked me to type in stuff in the command prompt but obviously, he was bluffing. I hung up. I knew for a fact that anyone not in front of your computer has no way of knowing what's on it. Besides, I didn't have a Windows computer. I have a Mac.

I reported the caller's phone number to Callercenter.com so others know. I hope nobody falls for this scam.

Sounds like a pretty standard scam here. They′re typically calling from someplace in India and seem to spell out every letter they want you to type but in a manner so it′s actually hard to hear what they want you to type. There′s loads of videos on youtube about this. Go and have a laugh!

Yeah, just hang up. There′s no way anyone can see your monitor and your computer does not report anything to anyone unless you manually do it yourself.
