I WILL Play These Games!

Post » Thu Apr 16, 2015 12:16 am

I just fleshed out my D&D gaming library with GoG's latest sale. This package brings my total GoG.com games to 98 games. Of these, I have played (lately) maybe ten or twenty. I have purchased some of them as games I enjoyed way back when, but have not played them again since purchasing them. Quite a few I have run and poked about with, but have not really "played" them, like Fallout 1 and 2.

My Steam Library has also grown, much to my chagrin  It is now at 30 games, many of them old games with a few that I can not get working. One of the games I backed in Kickstarter and it is out in release form (Worlds of Magic). Still, other than Skyrim, Blood Bowl, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, I have not really "played" many of them.

Being as miserly as I am, this is not sitting well with me. So I am going to "make" myself play these games that are sitting in my libraries!

How about your online gaming libraries? How does yours look?

I'm pretty much caught up, but mainly because I don't take advantage of sales just because it is on sale. What I typically do is bookmark a game that I want, and if I can wait for it to possibly on sale, I will wait for it. If another game is on sale that is similar, I research it heavily, and if sufficient I make it a replacement for that other game. If it svcks, I regret my decision and go back to square one.

I just never see the point in purchasing something and either never using it, or barely using it. It really irks me a lot.

Anyways, games in my libraries that I have not touched or put more than an hour into:

Loom, Oddworld: Abe's Oddesey, Warframe, Darklight: Retribution

Note: all of these were either "free with subscription", free, or part of a bundle.

How many games are in all of my libraries right now?

3 PS1, 4 PS2, ~40 PS3, 15 PS4, 15 PC, 4 Mobile (Android)

Mine would be similar to yours. I went on a bit of a spree this past fall and winter, but I have yet to get around to playing most of them. I've actually been having a hard time getting into gaming for awhile now, I've gotten a bit bored of them.

My unplayed game stack shames me. And it shames me more the more time that goes by.

The one mitigating factor is Divinity Original Sin. I backed it in spite of the premise sounding like the most hateful thing in the history of ever. And when I played it, it was awesome.

Steam library wise, that ship has already sailed. I've bought so many games from sales that I don't think I'll be able to get to them all any time soon. At least I'll never run out of games to play.

Console wise, there are games that go not played or incomplete, but it's not to the extent of what I have on Steam. Sometimes I'll start a game, enjoy it, then take a small break from it. Then that break turns to months of not playing that game, and then years and then the game just gets lost in time. A shame that happened to Sleeping Dogs, as I was really enjoying that game at the time.

That happens to me as well. There's actually very few games that I've fully completed. Another problem I have is a compulsion to tinker with editors, like the GECK. I make a change then feel compelled to go back to the beginning to try it out in the game. Then part way through I come up with some other idea and start the process all over again.

During a recent Origins sale I went ape with The Sims 3. Sims 3, Medieval and about half a dozen or so add on packs. Good prices. I loved the original Sims and thought that I would enjoy The Sims 3 three times as much. I really tried to get into it twice, but I just can't. I guess third time pays for all, as my old gaffer used to say.

Same for X-Com, enemy unknown. Started it twice and gave up.

I have a couple of Mount and Blade's that I've never even used yet.

Fallout 1 and 2, most all of the Ultima's and their Other World's games. I've played the ruddy Hell out of them so very long ago but can't seem to get into them again.

According to my account at GOG I have 53 titles in my library. Not that I still don't have all of the originals anymore, but this gives me files that my modern computer can actually read today.

In my Origins library I have 13 titles available. It was 12 until I just logged in and found that they had another title up for free. Can't pass that up, right?

So, yeah. I know exactly what you mean. I have enjoyed these games before, but I can't seem to tear myself away from the Bethesda Big Four; Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas and Skyrim.

I just took a peek at my Steam account. There are a few games I haven't played: The Witcher, The Witcher 2, Venetica, Tomb Raider, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Dungeon Siege 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

I've also re-purchased games I've played on discs, but haven't gotten around to playing my Steam copies yet: Morrowind, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Dungeon Siege, Dungeons Siege 2, Dragon Age: Origins.

And then there's a few games I've hardly touched: Fallout: New Vegas, Half Life 2, Alice: Madness Returns.

I was surprised to see Venetica on the list. I don't remember buying that game at all. I can't even remember what the game is about now. I guess I'm going to have to Google it to find out what possessed me to purchase it. :blush2:

I've got over 100 games on Steam, and I've finished probably less than 1/5 of them. Not to mention all of the unfinished console games I have...

My problem is that I start one game and play it for a while, then start another game for a change of pace and get hooked on that for a while while neglecting the first game, then maybe start a third game which ends up with me forgetting about the other two, and so on. By the time I get back to the first game I've forgotten what I was doing, so I end up restarting from the beginning, and the cycle begins again.
