Do you find solicitors rude, annoying, or just plain creepy?

Do you? I sure do. I'm not much for unexpected visitors. Never know who you're really dealing with. As I see it. If I'm interested in buying something. I'll go Online or go to a store. To me, door to door sales is a form of harassment or can be depending on who it is. I get it that some of us are familiar with Swan's Ice cream and their door to door sales but some people you just don't want any where near your home or family.

Recently I had a man come to my home. He drove a crappy blue truck and looked very unprofessional. Most business guys who want you to sign up for some corporate program at least look presentable. Hell, even Jehova's Witness dress better than this guy did.

He wanted me and my wife to sign up and look over a thing on Tobacco Awareness and pay a monthly bill or a gratuity fee. I wasn't the only one. People I knew complained that this guy was going around, apparently there was one other. People in general were complaining about this.

Anyways, back to the story at hand. My mother is visiting when this jerk shows up on my door step. I told him I was not interested after he explained to me what it was. I didn't open the glass outer door as I didn't want him to come in. I knew if I opened the door fully, he would take that as if I were implying he were welcome in to my home. Here's where things get interesting. As soon as I told him I wasn't interested. A really dark, pissed off look comes over his face. He tells me:

" I haven't fully explained this to you and you haven't heard a damn thing that I've said, You said no without hearing me out. You're not listening to me and you have the nerve to tell me you're not interested?"

This was a red flag to me. This guy needed to leave....now. I than tell him to leave and not come back. That he's on my door step, its my home, and if he keeps up his attitude that I'm going to call the police.

Apparently my wife claimed he came by the day before. So I told her, if he shows up one more time. Call the police.Don't even hesitate.

Most people who come to my house knocking wanting to sell stuff and its almost always a solicitor. I just don't answer the door as most of the time I don't know them. If they persist in knocking, I just tell them to piss off.

I'm honestly not a rude guy, but you never mess with people at their homes. I used to live out in the country and rarely ever dealt with solicitors or people trying to sell me crap. Than I move into town and everyone is knocking on the door wanting to advertise or sell me junk, disturbing my home life.

How do you all feel about this sort of thing?

Oh, I thought you meant legal specialists for a moment.

We try to get rid of door-to-door nuisances as much as possible. We have a notice on the windows just below the doorbell clearly stating "we do not buy goods or services at the door", though the one group that considers itself exempt is the renowned pain that is the double glazing salesman. Even though the trouble with windows in our house is that they were previously installed by one of the double glazing companies in question (anyone in the UK will be very familiar with the two usual suspects) and they're crap. I'd buy replacements from nearly anybody else.
