Custom PC Concerns

Post » Mon Apr 20, 2015 10:57 am

Ok I will keep it simple i have a link prepared to what i have, of all these, i have yet to buy the Optical drive, keyboard, monitor, memory, Operating system, and cpu cooler

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tNFxQ7

My concern is have i limited myself with this motherboard, and if you could change or suggest different parts, what would you?

I know i have asked this atleast once about a completely different build, but i am at a point where i can buy parts.

Afterthought: If you have any tips for system checking, optimization, things i need to watch out for, reliable brands, pros and cons, you name it, i would like to know.

You should look at the parmalink in the pcpartpicker system build page.

The link you have posted, is empty, unfortunately.

Did you already buy the CPU, mobo, and GPU?

If not, I would recommend dropping down to an Athlon 860k with an FM2+ mobo, and stepping up to an r9 280, 285, or 280x (all can be had for less than $200, grab the highest you can afford.)

Don't go with the 8320, go for the 8350 instead. It uses the same socket and only costs a little bit more, but provides better performance. There's a few games out, like Asssssins Creed: Unity and Shadows of Mordor, that recommend it over the 8320. I'd also recommend a slightly better video card. Anything with a 50 in the identification code is on the lower end of the scale. You should get at least a 760 or even a 780. Also a 1000 watt power supply is overkill. You' could probably get by with just 500 watts, though up to 750 would be better. You shouldn't need any more than 750 though. You also don't need 16 gb of memory. Unless you're going to be doing something video/3D rendering, 8 gig will be just fine. There aren't really any applications that require that much RAM, and it's something that's easy enough to add later on.

I already have the motherboard, CPU, GPU, case, power supply, and hard drive,

I have the 8350 i must have accidentally clicked that in the selection.

And holy crap, you don't need a1000 watt psu. Drop it down to a 6-750watt. You could easily do 2 280xs on a 750watt.

I have done some adjustments.

  • You don't need a 1000Watt power supply. (also i do not vouch for that PSU, as a 1000Watt and 100 bucks thingie)
  • I changed that mobo, with a better one. (don't let fool you around, those fancy MSI colors. It's just an okayish motherboard)
  • You don't need 16GB memory. 8GB are pretty much enough. (I changed those, will a lower latency 1866Mhz memory modules. Your mobo supports it, and your CPU as well.)
  • Windows 8.1 changed, with a full retail version (32/64 bit)
  • Changed your GPU, with a better one (a lot better, i would say)

PSU: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/XFX-PRO-650-W-Core-Edition-Power-Supply-Review/1165/10

Mobo: (Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3) http://bestreviewsadvisor.com/top-10-best-gaming-motherboards/

GPU: Even if that system doesn't exactly matches yours, you can take a look how a GTX 960 performs, against other competitors.

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Gigabyte/GTX_960_G1_Gaming/6.html

(there is a huge game list at the bottom, if you open that pull down menu)

That's my recommendation: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/TB2T99
