So what about these pay mods that depend on SKY UI and SKSE. I believe the mod creators of SKY UI and SKSe should charge the authors that use the paid system of steam mods because they are using thier work to get paid without their permission. They should able to take a percentage also.
DO NOT SUPPORT PAY STEAM MODS.
Could this move pave the way for user created content for consoles?
Doubt it. Who is going to eek out a living pushing out tiny piecemeal bits of content for a pittance at a time? More likely this process will casualise game development, so that rather than a salary and security, talented people will have to grift away making micro-content so that Valve and Bethesda can skim off the profits.
I don't know, the market is yet to sort-out the mess that is the Steam store right now, which is utterly flooded with make-a-buck 'early access' dreck rather than real games that any sane person would want to buy.
I love modded TES games - they've been a source of great enjoyment for for years, but if this is the road we're going down, I'm out - I won't be signing up for TES VI.
(I mean no offence to the specific people I've quoted, so I apologise if I cause any - just picked these lines out because they seem to summarise some of the key points about this issue).
@redjoe yes I was wondering the same thing about SKSE and other resources as well as copyright on mods based off of popular franchises now that Modders are getting paid. I already saw one paid mod which uses a sword from DOTA.
Yeah, I would really love it if the SKSE guys denied permission to use it in any for profit mod. I mean, what if they did?
