Well I think Valve should onlt get 10-15%. Think of it along the lines of a finders fee, so to speak, and the modder gets 35-40.

Also, in regards to mods costing money, in my experience of stuff costing money only the good products survive and the crap products begin to disappear. Why wouldn't this be the case with mods, the best mods being well done, supported, updated etc and crap ones eventually vanishing from the scene.

Which, imo, could potentially bring about. more and more high quality mods.

Now to get off an tangent about Muggy and FO4 Confirmed (They just did it and we didn't see it!) I'd have been a bit more interested in seeing them allow direct tip jars associated with one's hobby more than this to see how well it goes; as most of the time you test the waters before jumping head over heels in which seems to be what has just happened. Though I could be wrong and they are testing the water with this update and seeing how it goes. This is un-charted, some what but I'm not going to go into it, waters of selling game modifications make by folks with no gain in mind originally.

We might even see some Moorwind, Oblivion, FO3, & FO-NV modifications done with some professionally quality. Or none at all. We'll see. : )

Though I do hope that with more funds this brings in more modification maker protections from Beth. Had a bad experience lately watching the ship of "You'd be there for us like you said." hit rock bottom with Arma's community sadly.. Really don't want to see that here.

They uh, made the game, and the tool. The mods, and the profit thereof, would literally not be possible without Bethesda.

You know what? I begin to think that we shouldn't care that much. Crappy paid mods will be for crappy users.

The mods that really matter will be for the other, more considerate, mods users and they will remain free.

Unless someone in the future make it so that modding implies uploading mods to the Workshop and nowhere else...

You have no idea how mad this makes me. The niftools crew has been like in a dark corner of the modding community barely scraping by. And without their work, which is an enormous undertaking, none of these clowns could sell their special armor.

it just all needs to burn. I'm not sure niftools could do anything, or maybe they wouldn't do anything, but this is like borderline criminal imo.

It's not OK to talk - especially disparagingly - about other people in personal terms. Saying "so-and-so is being really childish" is flaming. Don't do it.

I'm going to bring back the Sims as an example because it's very valid.

Say someone releases a red Ferrari mod, someone saw this and liked it but didn't like the color so they made a Ferrari mod that is blue instead of red. Both modders charged for this. Now normally under a community about sharing and creating this wouldn't be a problem, the other mod maker would just say good job or laugh it off but under a paid model the interaction becomes this

"Whoa there HOW DARE YOU STEAL MY WORK, HOW DARE YOU DO THAT, REPORT REPORT REPORT"

Now the kicker? Both mods were made by hand, the blue Ferrari mod didn't use assets from the red Ferrari mod yet the drama still happens. Similar things happened in the Sims community which lead to the first case of mod piracy and toxic modders who don't care about making mods, they care about making as much money as possible.

It's not about the good products surviving and getting bought, it becomes a closed group where people or teams look at others with disdain and try to hit each other with as many copyright strikes as possible if they come close to being similar. It creates unneeded competition and closes what use to be an open community. It also makes it harder for new modders to get in on it because others are keeping their assets and techniques to themselves in fear that either their stuff would be sold without permission or used in a way the creator doesn't want. It would also end up with making it harder to detect conflicts between mods, not to mention the model could hurt the consumers by limiting what they can work together and fan-made patches for mods will become a dead thing.

In the end it hurts modding and the community as a whole and for what? So some greedy few who become popular can crush the hidden jewels that will never make a dime or any fanbase.

I have to disagree with what you said about the good products surviving and the crap going away. The best mods are collaborations between people. With money involved, some people are refusing to work with others. So imo, mods won't be as good as they could be if they had people working together with their ideas and talents. Project Nevada is a good example from what I know of it. There are so many good mods integrated together to make a remarkable experience.

That is not what is happening or is going to happen. You have over 20,000 mods on the workshop. What happens when half of those get put behind a pay wall?

This, imo, is about flooding the market with cheap junk to bewilder and confuse kids, exactly like impulse buys at the grocer. How many people are really going to pay 20 bucks for a falskarr?

and what liability will there be? I would be shocked if mod authors didn't rage quit, they haven't seen flaming yet. They will harass these people right off the face of the planet.

For the CK to be worth the huge 45%, it would need a complete overhaul. No bugs. No crashes. Ported to other platforms, And a lot more.

They sit in the same sort of ground as SKSE. They are basically back-door entering file formats like nif that companies like Bethesda pay a license to use, because if they didn't nobody would be able to mod with file formats. They can only stand by and watch, cause if they made a move to get reimbursemant then more then likely they would get shut down by the NetImmerse group, who obviously would also want a cut.

They don't want see they their tools taken away and reduce the modding community, no more then the SKSE guys. By providing those critical tools they have helped build the community, and like most of use here do not want to see if crumble.

The notion of supporting or being against payed modding?

Well that is business in general. Reviews arise and what not and people leave comments on if it was worth buying or not. The consumer has a right to be informed; though that does not protect the consumer if they go in uninformed. That is on them when the information is available.

Though on harassment I don't even factor that in. I'll stand behind what Giskard and the TEG does to stand against it so my opinion is limited on the community not being mean in general. : )

Legalities are costly bud.

Global legalities are even more costly. (Good reason you see little being done about China coping even small things from small companies that patented them.)

Now factor in a group of people doing this as a past-time or similar. Even more unlikely.

I was hoping this was were common sense came into play to be honest. Probably best to hope that is what everyone goes on. o.o

If not then oh well. Their choice to vote without reading into it I suppose.
