galsiah's character development mod problem

Post » Wed May 19, 2010 10:18 pm

This mod just won't work. I know it is installed properly because I get the ring that lets you adjust your stats. But after entering my stats, there is no change. And my next level says something like 2/3000... same problem with a new character. I also get an error that says something like error finding DIVIDEBYZERO.

My mods are

none of these effect skills or anything that I know of so I don't see a conflict...

Also going to throw in this small problem I have with balmora expansion as well.... In a corner of the city, near the music shop and market place tavern, an area of the ground is missing and you can see water below. It looks like a grass hill or whatever ate half of a building and part of the floor. Not game breaking and I hardly use that area of the city, but just checking if anyone else has an experience with that.

Unless I am reading it wrong, I don't see any of the GCD mods enabled.

Yeah, I took em out because they did not work. I had the two files I needed active at the time. The expansion one, and the regular one. I read the whole readme's so I know I had everything right.

There is a thread on bugs for this mod: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1031661-galsiahs-character-development-gcd-bug-report/page__st__100

You can probably look through there to see if you find an answer.

did that before, nothing new happened. That post is no help though, maybe for morrowind scripters.

Another thing I noticed is when I enter my new stats, it says I am over estimating myself and says something like it should be around 400 points. Am I suppose to only put a fraction of my skill levels or what? The readme said nothing about that.

Ring? What ring, when starting a new game with GCD there should be no ring and no entering of stats. I think Galshiah had offered up a way for players who wanted to adjust his leveling to do so but not knowing what you're doing with that will mess up GCD all together.

As for the message that you've got 2/2000 or something before you level - iirc that's normal. GCD is supposed to remove the ability to count anxiously count/map your progress between levels. You will level but you actually have to go and use the correct skills for your character to do so. For example my mages level up so fast just walking from Seydra Neen to Balmora at game start that they usually reach the city at level 6. Leveling tapers off at higher levels however and I think my level 60 archer hasn't reached a new level in quite some time.

My advice, put the mods back. Start a new game. Walk around Seydra Neen, using your proper skills to defend yourself along the way - then check to see what level you are. If you still haven't leveled at all, then worry about it not working.

As for the hole in Balmora - you must be using a mod that alters the land there besides BE. A conflict detecter might help you id which mod is doing so and fixing the problem.

Ring? What ring, when starting a new game with GCD there should be no ring and no entering of stats.

Just after adding GCD to your game (I think after the gals_reprocess procedure), you should get this message: "Seeing a shining object at your feet, you feel compelled to pick it up. You find it to be a simple, yet attractive ring. Taking this as an omen, you resolve that when you first put it on, you will be ready to begin on your path - unencumbered by the burden of enchantments." And you should find "A Shining Ring" in your inventory. The purpose is to allow people to add GCD to existing games.

Edit: I got it a little wrong as to when you get the ring.

It's looking for your starting skill and attribute points. If you pick a sign like lady that adds attribute points, you'll get a warning but just accept it.

I did have the lady!

Thanks!

Got the mod working by the way by just deleting the esps and reinstalling them. HP got kinda [censored] so might just wait for a new game to use this mod.

Oh and to the guy about my balmora problem... I checked that and no other mod occupies that area. I even done repairs with wrye mash... I don't see what else the problem could be though...

Yes, but for the purpose of testing if GCD works - and starting a new game with it installed as the OP said they did, there should be no ring, it should be seamless. My general thinking is that not knowing what to do exactly with the ring, and not knowing exactly what to expect from the mod, playing around with the ring is a bad idea. Plus, isn't there an option to let GCD figure it out themselves with the ring? I have neither readme or CS here so I can't check these things but I seem to recall that waay back the last time I started a character without it already installed, or I'd have never gotten into using it :shrug:

GCD does work, the real problem here is figuring out what's been done that's keeping it from doing so. Seems obvious it's the ring and the entering of stats that the OP has expressed confusion over how to do properly.

I actually tested it with my character first, then started a new game to test it.

just a note, you do not need these ones

GameFile35=Appropriate Greetings M - T.esp
GameFile36=Appropriate Greetings M.esp

because they are included in

GameFile51=Antares' Big Mod 5.esp

Yes but you mentioned entering your stats in manually in both instances, which should not be necessary if testing it on a new game. Also, always back up your save when adding mods so that if they don't work your character isn't screwed. Now, do you not have the option to ignore the opportunity to enter stats manually when installing gcd to an existing character? As I said I can't check for myself but I think you should and that this is what you should be using if your having problems entering them manually.

Don't recall mentioning that. Must of been a mistake in my text that made it sound like that. There was no ring on new character.

Anyway It has been fixed. All I did was remove the esps and put them back in. No idea why that worked.

Definitly enjoying the mod now. Pretty sweet to get strength levels without lvling up!
